Annual 'Newcastleton' Blue Grey Sale

NO TUESDAY BLUES IN LOCKERBIE

 

On Tuesday 18th October, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Great Annual Special sale of Blue Grey In Calf Heifers, Bulling Heifers, Bullocks and heifer calves, at Lockerbie Mart.

A catalogued entry of 644 Blue Grey females and 303 suckled calves were forward at the better known ‘Newcastleton Sale’ to an enormous crowd, ensuring all classes were keenly bid for, with purchasers from the Northern Hemisphere to Southern Hemisphere of old & new purchasers. The save averaged £1049.90 just slightly back on the year, however selling more cattle than the previous year. 

Mr Michael Niven, Clover Farm kindly judged best pen of 4 or more bulling heifers awarded the Rob Armstrong Memorial trophy to Messrs Ions, High Thorneyburn, for his pen later selling to £1220 per head.

The best pen of heifers calves was judged by Mr John Nichol, Dyke Croft who awarded the Karen Telford Herbert Memorial trophy was Messrs Elliott, Burnfoot of Ewes, which sold to £980 per head.

Topping the in calf heifer section was an annual consignment from Messrs Wallace Farney Shields all in calf to the Aberdeen Angus selling to £1800.

Suckled calves sold well topping at £1200 for British Blue heifers from Messrs Hogg, Milnholm. Bullocks sold to £1190 from Bridgewater & Wood, Potholm for Limousins.
