Harrison & Hetherington held the opening day of the three day annual Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association ‘C’ District ram sale with a catalogued entry of 184 aged and ram lambs.
Topping the sale at £18000 was a ram lamb from Burncroft Farm, Eggleston, Barnard Castle which was bought in a half share between Messrs Wear, Patterdale and Messrs Lightfoot, Glendinning.
Burncroft Farm also sold another ram lamb to make £14000 with this selling to Messrs Harker, Grayrigg Hall, Kendal.
This home also sold ram lambs to make £6000, selling to Messrs White, Rigg Farm, Lunedale and Messrs Dixon, Hartley Castle, Kirkby Stephen with another lands selling for £4500 which was bought by Messrs Fox, St Johns Kirk, Biggar.
The overall champion lamb was awarded to lot 176 which was also consigned by Burncroft Farm, and went on to sell for £2500.
The consignment of 16 ram lambs from Burncroft sold to average £3471.88.
Aged rams sold to £5200 from Messrs White, Rigg Farm, and Messrs Bland, Cotegill, which went on to sell to Messrs Emmott, Whitelees Farm, Consett.
Next making £4500 was the overall champion aged ram from Burncroft Farm, which was purchased by Messrs Harrison, Sleddale Hall, Penrith.
Messrs Dalton, Glenhill, Allendale sold an aged ram to make £3200 selling to Messrs Wearmouth, Gillses Farm, South Stainmore.
Messrs Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough sold their aged ram to make £3000 selling to Messrs Hall, Hope House, Richmond.
Ram lambs averaged £1428.14 (up £664.53 on the year)
Aged rams averaged £878.94 (up £51.97 on the year)
Good quality and strong well made both aged ram lambs sold to great demand with buyers consistently looking for these types and were prepared to pay a premium for them.
