Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE – Harrison and Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of 359 Store Cattle, as numbers start to tighten up demand for quality fleshed cattle of all grades has heated up.  The weathered cattle, however, still carry the burden of feed costs.  Native cattle lead the way today with a Beef Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall selling at a sale leading £1790.  Heifers peaked at £1480 for a Limousin x consigned by Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith.  Dairy bred bullocks to £1220 for Holsteins from Messrs Watson, Howrigg Farm, Wigton.

WEANED CALVES –  Vendors travelled hundreds of miles to sell all types of Bulls, Bullocks, heifers and cow with calves.  Bulls topped at £1280 for a Limousin from Pearsbyhall Farming Partnership.  Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £1120 from the same home.  Simmental bulls were up to £1130 from Messrs Addison, Greystone.  Bullocks sold to £1090 for a quality Limousin from Messrs Hall, Nether Harsley.  Messrs Johnston, Horsemoor also had Limousins at £1030 and £1010.  Holsteins sold to £880 from Messrs Thompson, Eden Bank and Friesian bullocks to £705 from Messrs Holliday, Pine Grove.  Limousin heifers were up to £1040 from Messrs Robinson, Hawksteel. Cows and calves topped at £1340 for a Belty from Messrs Scott, Dalston.  Already many cattle coming forward for next weeks sale.
