Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 4145 sheep were forward consisting of 3238 prime lambs, 702 cast sheep and 205 store lambs.

Topping the sale at £179 were a pen of four 45kg Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Blandford, Herefordshire.

This same home also sold a pen of six 43kg Beltex cross lambs to make £175 (407p/kg) with another pen of thirteen 42kg lambs to make £171 (407.1p/kg), a pen of four 44kg lambs to make £168, a pen of eight 42kg lambs to make £168 (400p/kg), a pen of twenty three 41kg lambs to make £163.50 and a pen of twenty one 43kg lambs to make £162 all from this home. The wonderful consignment of 268 lambs from Messrs Blandford sold to average 43.28kg, £156.21, (360.94p/kg).

Topping at 407.9p/kg were a pen of 38kg Rouge cross lambs which sold for £155 from Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick. 407.5p/kg were a pen of seven 40kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £163 from Thompson Livestock, Penrith. This same home also sold a pen of eighteen 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £160 (400p/kg).

Susan Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold a pair of 51kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £161 (315.7p/kg).

Heavy Texel cross lambs sold to £169 (325p/kg) for a pen of eight 52kg lambs from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle with this home also selling a pen of 55kg Texel cross lambs to make £169 (307.3p/kg). Trade was flying for all classes with a fantastic SQQ average of 290.47p/kg and an overall ale average of 273.27p/kg, £122.33 being achieved for 3238 lambs which included over 600 Mule and Horned lambs.

Mule lambs sold to £130 from Messrs Pratt, Intake Bottom, Kirkby Stephen.  Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton also sold Mules to make £120. Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm sold a pen of twenty one 52kg Mules to make £118.50 with this same home topping Mules at 246.7p/kg for a pen of 45kg which sold for £111 and another pen of ten 45kg Mules to make £110 (244.4pp/kg)
