Borderway Sale of Store Cattle & Weanlings

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

STORE CATTLE – A small show of cattle sees trade rise way beyond expectations with vendors leaving with hundreds of pounds more than expected.  Top overall was a superb Limousin cross steer from Messrs Wigham, Coldshields, Haltwhistle peaking at £1880.  Messrs Wallace, Claycrop Farm, Newton Stewart sold two Charolais cross steers to £1610.  Messrs Hebson, Chapel Farm, Carlisle sold the top British Blue to £1590 for two and Roger Graves, Hesket Demain, Carlisle sold one of his second draw to £1580 and Aberdeen Angus to £1410 for Claremont Properties, Hayclose, Penrith.  Heifers peaked at £1570 for quality as ever from Messrs Batty, Flimby Hall, Maryport.  Messrs Metcalfe, High Old Shield, Brampton to £1520.  Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1490 from Messrs Moffat, Thornby Villa, Wigton.  Dairy bred steers peaked at £1260 for a Friesian from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton.

WEANED CALVES – A great show of 181 stirks were forward with extra buyers coming to Ring 4 to ensure one of the dearest trades to date.  Messrs Teasdale, Doddick Farm, run of bullocks and heifers topped at £1230 for a British Blue cross.  Messrs Lancaster, Fell View sold a Limousin x heifer for £1140.  Messrs Edmondson, High Mansrigg sold a Limousin x heifer for £1130 and a Limousin x bullock for £970.  Sue Dale-Sunley, Airds of Balcary sold 6 outstanding Charolais heifers for £975.  Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales run of 7-8 month Limousin x bulls topped at £1150 x2 and £1140 x3.
