Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,417 sheep were forward consisting of 2,706 prime lambs and 711 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £166 were a pen of five 42kg Beltex cross lambs from Thompson Livestock, Penrith.

Topping at 398.8p/kg were a pen of seven 40kg Beltex cross lambs which made £159.50 from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York, who also sold a pen of eleven 43kg lambs to make £159.

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond sold a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £164 (390.5p/kg) with another pen of five 42kg lambs from this home making £160 (381p/kg)

Messrs Dinsdale, High Field, Morland sold a pen of 45kg Beltex cross lambs to make £163.

Mrs Dinsdale, Carpool, Bleatarn sold a pen of four 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £157.

Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn sold a pen of 38kg Beltex cross lambs to make £147 (386.8p/kg)

D & A Livestock, Prospect Farm, Harrogate sold a pen of eight 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £153.50 (383.8p/kg)

Thompson Livestock, Penrith sold a pen of fourteen 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £152 (380p/kg)

2696 lambs sold to an SQQ average of 271.71p/kg and an overall average of 265.55p/kg.

Heavy lambs sold exceptionally well once again with Jojo Andres, Yore selling a pen of 48kg lambs to make £150 (312.5p/kg)

Messrs Lee, Richmond sold a pen of 50kg lambs to make £146 (292p/kg) with this same home selling a pen of 23 50kg lambs to make £140(280p/kg), 55kg making £150 (272.7p/kg) and a pen of 19 49kg lambs making £133.50 (272.4p/kg) all from this home.

Messrs Dinsdale, Morland sold 53kg lambs to make £145.50 (274.5p/kg) with 48kg lambs making £144 (300p/kg) also from this home.

Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Kings Meaburn sold a pen of 50kg lambs to make £142 (284p/kg)

Both Messrs Clarke, Waitby and Messrs Wills, Dufton sold pens of 48kg lambs to make £145 (308.5p/kg)

Mule lambs topped at £126 for 55kg lambs from Messrs Pratt, Intake Bottom, Kirkby Stephen.

Mules also topped at 247.8p/kg for a pen of 29 45kg lambs which sold for £111.50 from Messrs Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale, Stainmore.

Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Murton sold a pen of 29 48kg Mules to make £116 (241.7p/kg)

Good meated Suffolk cross lambs with weight about them were fantastic to sell with Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown selling at pen of 22 52kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £134 (257.7p/kg) with this same home selling a pen of 12 51kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £130 (254.9p/kg) a pen of 23 50kg Suffolk cross at £127 (254p/kg) and a pen of 21 48kg Suffolk making £121.50 (253.1p/kg)

Handy weighted horned lambs with meat sold well with a pen of 10 37kg Swaledale making £83.50 (226.8p/kg) from Messrs Rutter, Green Gill Farm, Barnard Castle.

Messrs Allison, West Briscoe sold a pen of 26 37kg Swaledale lambs to make £83 (224.3p/kg)

All classes of Cast Sheep were dearer again on the week topping at £180 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Harrison, High Beck Head, Barnard Castle.

Scotch Blackfaced ewes topped at £94 for a pen of five from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport.

Swaledale ewes topped at £91 for a pen of seven ewes also from Messrs Skelton, Low House, with this same home also selling two pens of 13 Swaledale ewes to make £85.

Messrs Birbeck, High Stennerskeugh sold a pen of Swaledale ewes to make £86 with Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras also selling a pen of 13 Swaledale ewes to make £85.

Cast rams sold to £172 for two Texels from Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall.
