Borderway Black & White Sale

ABSOLUTE HIT TOP SPOT WITH A SPICY SAMBUCA

The 36th edition of the Black & White sale held at the Borderway Sale Centre attracted a massive crowd of dairy enthusiasts from across the UK and Ireland with buyers recorded from six countries and twenty three UK counties.  Trade topped at 14,000gns with 27 animals selling for or above £5000 with the overall average coming to £4224 per life.

Topping the sale at 14,000gns was Absolute Lambda Black Sambuca consigned by Absolute Genetics near Preston.  Sambuca was a granddaughter of MS Beautys Black Velvet EX96 who recently was the wining Mature cow and Champion Bred & Owned at World Dairy Expo.  The dam of this powerful Lambda daughter was sired by Unix and was the winning Senior 2yr old at the Eastern Ontario Invitational Show this autumn.  Sambuca was purchased by Peter Prior owner of Designer Holstein in Chelmsford.  

Slatabogie Holsteins in Northern Ireland have dominated the headlines since they recently established their elite Holstein herd only a few years ago.  They sold five heifers in absentia selling Slatabogie Lambda Carlin for 11,000gns to the Cairnpat Holstein herd in Stranraer.  Carlin had it all, great pedigree, valuable index and was a super attractive heifer.  She was the highest PLI heifer in the sale and her dam is the number one GTPI Hurricane daughter worldwide tracing back to the prolific Larcrest Cosmopolitan cow.

Ingleview Solo Twizzle sold for 9,000gns to Cairnpat Holstein herd in Stranraer and was consigned by Robert & Elaine Butterfield from Lancashire.  Twizzle was a daughter of the current Irish National Champion, Hallow Atwood Twizzle who also was Reserve Champion at the Baileys Show this year.  Full sister to the dam was the Italian National Champion in 2016 and the Grand dam Hallow Advent Twizzle EX96 was the Grand Champion at the Emerald Expo in 2016.

This year winning Production Cow at World Dairy Expo was Macland Yoder Rachel EX95 and descends from the family International super sires such as Robust, Bookem Bob and Boxer Punch.  Wowcow Holsteins from Somerset offered a choice of her three young Lambda daughters who all had tested over GLPI+3200.  This exciting lot was purchased by David Leyburn Farming in N. Ireland for 9,000gns.

Warnelview Doc Nita sold for 8,500gns to Peter Waring from Yorkshire.  Nita was consigned by Kevin & Christine Wilson from Carlisle and was a daughter of the herd icon Warnelview Final Cut Nita EX97.  This amazing King Doc daughter flirted with perfection and was a carbon copy of her Excellent 97-pointed dam and was the only heifer in the sale with two Excellent 95 classified sisters. 

Oakfield Solom Footloose is probably the most talked about Holstein cow on the planet following her Supreme Champion title this year at World Dairy Expo.  Selling for 8,500gns was Langpark Wishingwell Freeze who was bred from the same third dam as Footloose being non other than Harvue Roy Frosty EX97 the two time World Dairy Expo Champion.  This super attractive Diamondback daughter was purchased by Harry Roper from Preston. 

An impressive group of milking heifers topped at 7,000gns for Denmire Apps Silver consigned by the Dennison family from Ulverston and was purchased by the Denholm family in Stirlingshire.   She was bred from nine generations of Excellent or Very Good classified dams and the fourth dam Denmire Ignite Silver EX94 was a past winner at the National Holstein Show.  This fine group of milking heifers from Denmire averaged £4646. 

Four quality Ayrshire heifers were on offer in this years sale and topped at 5,000gns for Whiteflat Magic Martha who was consigned by the Bryson family from Ayrshire.  Martha was a daughter of the two time UK Dairy Expo Champion Changue Martha EX95 was and was sired by Brieryside Magic.  This super udder heifer was classified Very Good 87 and has recently won Grand Champion at the West of Scotland Dairy Show, she was purchased by Mr Esquierdo from Ayrshire.     

The recently established Treasure Jersey herd from Lockerbie sold two world class lots.  They sold Treasure Bontino Fernleaf for 6,000gns The Silly Willys Partnership in Shropshire.  This heifer oozed style and was a daughter of Lightning Ridge Tequila Fernleaf who placed 3rd at World Dairy Expo after being exported from Australia in 2018.  

The Kedar Brown Swiss herd consigned two special Swiss heifers and topped at 6,000gns for Kedar Eat Sleep Show Rhapeat who was purchased by Stuart Williams from Pembrokeshire.  Rhapeat was a daughter of the three time UK Dairy Expo Champion, Kedar Rhapsody EX95 and was sired by Holdrio.
