Borughton Christmas Primestock Show & Sale

On Monday 5th December 2022 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Annual Christmas show and sale of prime sheep and store cattle within Broughton in Furness Auction Mart, a great turn out of local stock were forward in all categories and a high crowd gathered to witness this important annual event in the sales calendar. 

Kindly sponsoring this event was Jim Peet Animal Feeds, H & H Land and Estate, H & H Insurance Brokers, Brown & McKinney Veterinary Services, Janice Johnson Catering and Dugdale Nutrition.

CATTLE: The cattle classes were ably judged by young farmer Maisy Berresford, Angerton Hall Farm. She placed her Champion cow a smart Black Limousin cross weighing 650kg from A & B Wilson, Coniston Hall which sold for £1180 to J Shepherd & Son Ltd, Low House Farm.

Reserve Champion cow was a meaty Red Limousin cross weighing 685kg from RW & JM Johnson, Hobkin Ground which sold to Mr Morgan Helliwell.

Winning the store cattle was a shapey British Blue cross from NA & J Temple, Blackhall which sold for £1200 to the Judge Maisy Berresford, who also purchased the Reserve Champion from the same home, which sold for £1260.

PRIME SHEEP: The prime lambs and cast ewe judging fell into the capable hands of Mr Morgan Helliwell, Rochdale.

An outstanding class of young farmers lambs were presented for the show which is a great credit to the keen up and coming young farmers in the area. Champion Young Farmer lamb was a 47kg Texel lamb from Addison Cooper, Troughton Hall Farm, which topped the sale at £185 and sold to Mr Melville Tyson Butchers, Broughton In Furness. Reserve Champion Young Farmer lamb was a 50kg Blue Texel from Matthew Benson, Horrace Farm selling for £178 again to Melville Tyson Butchers.

Champion pen of 5 lambs went to SG Beson, Horrace Farm with their tremendous pen of 44.5kg Continental lambs selling to £138 per head. Reserve prize was claimed by the same home, this time selling for £140 per head for the 2nd prize continentals.
