On Monday 12th December 2022 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock.

PRIME BULLS – A smaller show of 53 prime bulls on offer. Messrs Scott & Sons, Daltonhook sold the top priced Limousin bull for 888kg at 281.5p totalling £2499 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Watson, Sanders Close sold a Limousin bull for 798kg at 291.5p totalling £2326 to Bowland Foods. Messrs Lawson, Stubbsgill Farm sold a Limousin x bull for 739kg at 302.5p totalling £2235 also to Bowland Foods. Messrs Coates, Rainscar sold the top priced British Blue bull for 630kg at 285.5p totalling £1798 to Bowland Foods.

PRIME CATTLE – A larger show of 72 prime cattle was on offer with a mixed show forward. Messrs Jackson, Skelton Wood End sold a British Blue heifer for 810kg at 299.5p totalling £2425 bought by Owain Llyr. Messrs Dickinson & Son, Kirkbarrow Hall sold the top priced Limousin x heifer for 766kg at 268.5p totalling £2056 also to Owain Llyr. Messrs Neill, Upper Tinwald Farm sold the top priced Charolais heifer for 728kg at 274.5p totalling £1998 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Stamper & Son, Rose Farm sold a Limousin x heifer for 644kg at 285.5p totalling £1838 to A & D Meats. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks sold the top priced Limousin x bullock for 719kg at 271.5p totalling £1952 and 668kg at 277.5p totalling £1853 to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Dickinson & Son, Kirkbarrow Hall sold a Limousin x bullock for 752kg at 254.5p totalling £1913 to A & D Meats. Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill Farm sold the top priced British Blue x bullock for 714kg at 267.5p totalling £1909 to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Dent, Elm House sold a British Blue x bullock for 662kg at 278.5p totalling £1843 to Charles Kirkpatrick.

CAST COWS & OTM CATTLE – A smaller show of 256 cast cows and stock bulls was on offer to a keen ring side of buyers ensuring all classes sharper on the week. Messrs Cowx & Son, Hudscales’ run of Limousin cows topped at 791kg at 267.5p totalling £2115 and 766kg at 225.5p at £1727 bought by Owain Llyr and Alan Jarvis. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a Limousin cow for 837kg at 248.5p totalling £2079 bought by Alan Jarvis. Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside’s run of Limousin cows topped at 845kg at 221.5p totalling £1871 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Milburn, Wall End Farm sold a Limousin cow for 835kg at 217.5p totalling £1816 to Les Fell. Messrs McCornick & Co, sold a Simmental cow for 840kg at 198.5p totalling £1667 and a Salers Heifer for 635kg at 222.5p totalling £1412 bought by Messrs Roberts and Sean McGimpsey.

A mixed show of dairy cast cows was on offer to a sharper trade. Hardgrove Farms sold the top priced Holstein x cow for 887kg at 181.5p totalling £1609 to Les Fell. Messrs Little & Son, Kirkbride House sold the top priced Norwegian Red cow for 964kg at 163.5p totalling £1576 also to Les Fell. Messrs Edgar & Co, Whitecroft Mains sold the top priced Fleckvieh cow for 804kg at 193.5p totalling £1555 to Alan Jarvis. Messrs Ramsey, Glenalmer sold a Montbeliarde x heifer for 199.5p and 197.5p both purchased by David Holmes. Messrs Vance & Co, Balnab Farm sold a Holstein x heifer for 194.5p and 189.5p bought by Les Fell. Messrs Jackson, Clarks Farm sold a Friesian heifer for 187.5p to Sean McGimpsey.

PRIME SHEEP: On Monday 12th of December, Harrison and Hetherington conducted their weekly sale of prime lambs. A total of 2234 lambs fell under the hammer to level out at 254ppk SQQ with an overall sale average of 248ppk being achieved, much more than any other local centre. Good meaty lambs met a fine trade with leaner lambs meeting resistance. Topping the trade was a single Texel lamb from Mr Dan Charnock, Roweltown selling for £160. Dutch Texel’s topped at £152 from TP Wigham, Hargill House. With Beltex lambs topping at £148 for a pen of 5 from ML & LB Bell, Winterhope. Mule lambs topped at £120 for a pen of 21 from W & B Nichol, Lawston. Suffolks topped at £120 from Mr Tom Holmes, Lockerbie. Swaledales topped at 361ppk from TP Wigham, Hargill House. Texel’s topped at 358.5p for a pen of 6 from M & G S Nelson, Braithwaite. Hill Sheep topped at 240.5p for Cheviots from WM Dotchin, Cumcatch. Many more lambs could be handled in Borderway with one of the UK’s Highest averages being achieved weekly.
