A great day for the breed in Carlisle and especially for Breed President, Adrian Rundle with a top of 2000gns and 9 other prices over 1000gns. Younger sheep were definitely in demand with the average for shearling ewes and ewe lambs significantly up from last year.
The arduous journey from Cornwall was worthwhile for Adrian Rundle’s, Treworthal Flock gaining five of the top nine highest prices. Topping the sale was the ram lamb, B832200300. Treworthal Magnus who was unshown on the day but has many show Championships to his name including Interbreed Ram Lamb at Devon County, Male Champion at the National Show and unbeaten in the ram lamb classes in 2022. Sired by Graylen Churchhill,, Magnus has the highest eye muscle and gigot score of Hampshire lambs scanned in 2022. Andrew & Louise Goldie from Dumfriesshire secured this lamb for their Hoddom Flock.
1700gns was the second top price achieved by two females from Treworthal. Champion of the pre sale show, judged by Harry Middleditch of the St Paul Flock, Suffolk, went to a Ewe Lamb, B832200292. This smart ewe lamb is another mixing style and performance being in the top 1% for muscle depth. Again, sired by Graylen Churchhill she also makes her way to Dumfriesshire with the Goldies who have an eye for a good sheep.
The other female making 1700gns was an in lamb shearling ewe Treworthal B832100200. Sired by the home bred sire Treworthal Savea and sold in lamb to Treworthal Magnus she sells to the Lochlad Farming Partnership in Dumfriesshire. Other Treworthal ewe lambs sired by Graylen Churchhill realised 1300gns and 1000gns to J&S Livestock from Towcester.
Other leading prices include 1400gns and 1300gns for Graham & Judith Galbraiths Graylen in lamb shearling ewes. Both sired by Wilstrop Legend, 24Y2104689 is in the top 10% breed on figures and sold in lamb to Yarcombe Hero and makes it way to the Whitby Flock of Louis Stainthorpe. The second 24Y2104690 sold in lamb to the 4000gns Thornfalcon Odyssey and makes it way to Cornwall for Adrian Rundle and his Treworthal Flock. A Thornfalcon Odyssey ewe lamb from the Galbraiths, 24Y2205107 made 1000gns and also went to J&S Livestock in Towcester.
1000gns was also realised by Catherine Lake & Karen Hames from the Rennisons Flock in Lincolnshire with an in lamb shearling ewe, B412100213. Home bred on both sides with an index of 312 which is in the top 1% of the breed, she sells in lamb to Kelsey Nobleman to I & S Clough, Pickering.
Male Champion went to Lorna Vevers with her ram lamb F262200784, Stourfield bred on both sides he sold for 450gns to A & I Dick, Dumbarton.
