Blue Texel Sheep Society Show & Sale

Two new Breed Records were set at the annual ‘Northern Supreme Sale’ held at Borderway Mart.

Setting a ‘New Breed Record’ of 30,000gns was Breed enthusiastic Henry Jewitt, who sold his shearling ram lot 795 SUNNYBANK FERGUS II (ET) sold in a three way split to Northern Ireland for Allen and Emma Shortt - Derg Flock, Aly Shortt - Woodview Flock & Russell Millen - Knockmult Flock.

Fergus has had great success at the only two shows he’s been exhibited at this year, attaining Both Male Champion and Reserve Overall at both the RHS 2022 and RWS 2022. Fergus is sired by Boyo Elite (ET) and out of Boyo Duchess both purchased privately from Dave Roberts.

Lot 844 DERG GI JOE (ET) Ram Lamb from Allen & Emma Shorrt , standing 4th in the Ram Lambs in the Pre Sale Show, he was the next top price in the male section. Sired by Matts Fitetrap and out of Derg Enigma, GI Joe sold for 11,000gns to Steve & Sara Gibbons (Whatmore)

MATTS GYPSY KING (ET) lot 874 stood second in the ram lamb class and went onto become Reserve Male and Reserve Overall Champion, sired by Matts Firetrap out of 6000gns Saltire Blue Doris, sold 10,000gns in a three way share.

The pre sale show 1st Prize Shearling Ram from Stasa Moyse, lot 812 SALTIRE BLUE FEROCIOUS sold 9,000gns.

Rams very much in demand with both old and new purchasers present around the ring leading to an extremely buoyant trade. Shearling rams averaged £1686.11 which are up £870.11 from the 2021 sale. Ram lambs averaging £1460.39 with and increase of £489.39 from 2021 sale.

Shearling Ewes topped at 20,000gns for Lot 1113 MATTS FITTEST (ET) from Matthew Burleigh, Fittest stood 3rd in the Pre-Sale show, she is sired by Drumard Ed and out of Saltire Dreamer (full sister to the dams of the 10,000gns Matts Gypsy King and 9,000gns Saltire Blue Ferocious) she sells to new breed Sophia Chambers.

A New Ewe lamb record was broken when the 1st Prize Ewe Lamb, and Female Champion lot 1119 DERG GRACIA (ET)from Allen & Emma Shortt sold for 8500gns, Gracia is sired by Matts Firetrap (ET) out of Derg Enigma and heads to join the Sunnybank Flock.

1st Prize Shearling Ewe & Reserve Female Champion from David & Clare Gray. ETTRICK FARRAH (ET) sold for 7000gns to Jennifer Duncan, Farrah is sired by Lyle’s Eagle out of Ettrick Diva (ET) a Dragon Buster daughter.

Ewe Lambs being very much sought after with an average of £1460.39 up by £489.39 from 2021.
