Borderway Sale of Calves

On Wednesday 4^th January Harrison & Hetherington welcomed everyone back to the calf ring.  The first sale of 2023 was met with a colossal entry of 410 calves forward.

£500 was top price calf today for a two month old Dairy bred British Blue from Fauld Farm Longtown £490 was achieved twice from Messrs Morley, Hadderdale and also Messrs Wadsworth, Big Balcraig.  Messrs Martin, Boggle Hall topped the Limousin section at £405.  DT & G Young, Crummock Bank topped the Charolais section at £380.  Angus bulls topped at £420 from Messrs Reed, Moss Side House.   First time vendors R Neill, Thornington Farm, Mindrum topped the Friesian bull section at £280. 

Heifers of all classes proved very challenging to cash throughout the sale.  British Blue heifers topped at £450 from Messrs Reed, Moss Side House and Messrs Martin, Boggle Hall topped the Limousin at £340.  Messrs Ramsey, Lodge of Kelton topped the Angus Section at £270 twice.
