WREAYWOOD HERD KICKS OF THE YEAR AT THE TOP
MILKERS AVERAGE £2381 ONLY 9 UNDER 2K
The new year kicked off in style at Borderway with a tremendous offering of milkers and in calf heifers. Trade topped of £3600 with milking heifers averaging £2381 with only 9 milking animals selling for under £2000. Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside with all categories of dairy cattle attracting brisk bidding. The breeders and consignors must be congratulated on the exceptional quality they had on offer.
North West Farmers sponsored the January sale with the top price going to the Wreaywood herd of the Wilson family from Woodside Farm. Wreaywood Rager Becky Red sold for 3,600gns she was freshly calved in her second and was giving 45kgs and was sired by Rager Red. This exceptional consignment of 19 cows averaged £2563 that included Wreaywood Cordial Mandy who sold for £2900.
For the third consecutive month the Bryson family from Lesmahagow have topped the heifer trade. This time with Carnduff Jonny Girl who sold for £3,400. She was giving 38kgs and was sired by Hillhead Jonny and bred from an Excellent classified dam.
The Belahvalley herd owned by the Hastwell family from Kirby Stephen sold 9 heifers and topped at £3100 for Belahvalley Hartley Amy. She was sired by De-Su Hartley and was bred from a McCutchen dam that gave over 12000kgs as a three year old.
Kibbleston Millington Kylie sold for £3000, she was consigned by the Craig’s from Carneil Farm in Dunfermline. She was sired by De-Su Millington and was bred from a Kingboy dam.
A tremendous group of 50 in calf heifers were consigned by several breeders to average £1797. Topping the in calf heifers at £2700 was Gerrard Aptitude Roxy who was consigned by Andrew Carter from Gerrard House Farm near Wigton. She was sired by Aptitude and bred from 12 generations of Excellent or Very Good dams from the Roxy family.
Balcurvie Holsteins consigned a tremendous group of 30 heifers to average £1801. They were all due in February to the Angus and topped at £2000 on three occasions for heifers sired by Attico Red, Darwin and Brennan.
