Kirkby Stephen New Year Show & Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their opening show and sale of store cattle.

Topping the sale at £1955 was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

The overall championship was awarded by our judge Mr M Wynne, Derbyshire to an 8 month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Thompson, Newfield Farm, Sedbergh which sold for £1850

The overall reserve championship was awarded to the first placed steer a 7 month old British Blue cross which sold for £1850 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm.

Trade was described as been the dearest seen yet!!

Heifers averaged £1342.07 (up £147.03)

Steers averaged £1292.46 (up £109.15)

An overall average of £1307.27 was achieved.

The second prize heifer a British Blue cross sold for £1900 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm.

Limousin cross heifers sold to £1875 and £1855 for 10 month old heifers also from Messrs Thompson, Newfield Farm.

Dairy bred blue heifers sold to £1765, £1700 with dairy bred blue steers selling to £1605 from Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby. The consignment of 14 dairy bred steers and heifers sold to average a fantastic £1556.50 from Bridge End Farm.

Smart young cattle also sold to extreme rates, with Messrs Pedley, Oaktree Farm, Barbon selling 8 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1415, with 11 month old Limousin cross steers selling to £1465 and 10 month old British Blue cross steers making £1375 also from this home.

All classes and ages of both continental and dairy bred cattle were sold to extreme returns with a full ringside of buyers present looking for all types. No need to worry about selling any class of store cattle here at Kirkby Stephen!
