'Border Beauties' Border Leicester Society show & Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

The annual ‘Border Beauties’ Border Leicester in lamb sale was held at Carlisle on Monday 9th January. A 100% clearance rate was achieved with all lots well picked on, with the top price of 1500gns being achieved on three occasions.

First to achieve 1500gns was the first shearling gimmer into the ring, she won 3rd prize in the show earlier in the day and was consigned by D & I Walker, The Alticane flock. A Kilphin Tomboy daughter, who was in lamb to Knockglass Triple Crown, she sold to Messrs Buchannan, Caithness.

Messrs DN Whyte’s Mearns flock had a successful day, achieving Overall Champion for their March born hogg sired by Ditton Islay Mist, she travels down to Derbyshire to Messrs Stanley.

The last In the trio reaching 1500gns was Thomas Tennant, Westforth flock with his Alticane Authority daughter. She won 2nd prize hogg and Reserve Champion, going to Messrs Bond-Green, Norfolk.

Narrowly missing out on joining the top price club, at 1400gns was the Mearns flock with a February born hogg sired by Clola Bear, she goes with the Champion for to Derbyshire.

The 4th prize gimmer consigned by the Intock flock of S & A Watson sold for 1350gns, she was a Drennan’s Dazzler daughter out of the flock’s show ewe, she sold in lamb to Westforth TT who won Champion ram at Lanark 2021. She sold to Messrs Inman, Melton Mowbray.

The first prize gimmer was picked on by local farmer, Messrs Forster, Hexham who purchased a Drennan’s Double Diamond daughter, sold carrying twins to Knockglass Triple Crown for 1300gns.

The trade continues strong at 1250gns for the 2nd prize ewe from the Drennan’s flock of MSC Laidlaw, Ayrshire.  A Didcot Duster daughter out of a homebred ewe, she carries triplets to Lyham Lord and was picked on by Messrs Mechie, Leyburn.

The Intock flock feature again at the next best 1100gns, this time for the second prize gimmer, she was sired by Didcot Diamond and out of the 2019 Royal Highland Show Reserve Champion’s daughter.  She carries twins to Westforth TT and sold to local new breeder Mr Roskell, Dumfriesshire.
