DENMIRE APPS TOPS THE CHARTS AT BORDERWAY
The opening Border & Lakeland sale of 2023 was a credit to all the consignors involved with a high standard on offer from start to finish. Several elite pedigrees featured in this special catalogue and are all included in the leading prices. Demand for dairy stock continues to be strong as the dairy replacement cost continues to look attractive as the value of cull cows increase. The overall average settled at £2721 with the top price heifer selling for 4,400gns; with 14 animals selling for or more than £3000.
Ineos sponsored the show and Malcolm Hutchinson from the Bowberhill herd judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion sold for 3,300gns and was purchased by Mr Coulthurst from near Preston. Stowbeck Drogo Mavis was consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms from near Penrith and was sired by ALH Drogo. Another thirteen heifers from this home sold to average almost £2800 including Stowbeck Drogo Gilly who sold for 3,400gns who was bought by the same buyer.
Mr Hutchinson selected Denmire Miami Doll as his 1st place Senior Heifer and Reserve Champion, she was consigned by the Dennison family from near Ulverston and sold for 3,000gns to Mr Robinson from near Brampton. She was sired by Claynook Miami and bred from a great line of the Doll family tracing back to the famous Crudwell Holstein herd.
The Dennison family consigned a special group of seventeen heifers to mark 50 years since the Denmire prefix was established to average £3058 and topped the trade at 4,400gns for Denmire Apps Marie Anne. She was bred from an amazing line of the Marie family, her third dam was Goldwyn Marie 102 the dam of proven bull Denmire Macomber. This perfect uddered heifer was purchased by Mr Harrison from Wickerfield Farm near Penrith.
Denmire Rakin Pamela sold for 3,900gns and was purchased by Mr Coulthurst from near Preston. She was a grand daughter of Denmire Lheros Pamela EX96 who was a winner at UK Dairy Expo, Agriscot and the National Holstein Show. She was purchased by Mr Coulthurst from near Preston.
Selling for 3,600gns to Tom Reed from Devon was Denmire Challenger Margot. She was sired by Sandy-Valley Challenger and will complete ten generations of Excellent or Very Goods once she is classified.
The Espland herd owned by Alan Cannon sold four powerful framed heifers with great udders to average £3045 and topped at 3,600gns for Espland Attico Sasha who was purchased by Mr Coulthurst from near Preston.
