WREAYWOOD HERD TOPS FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH
Following months of strong and confident trading dairy cattle values dropped following the announcement of milk price reductions. Once again buyers had a tremendous choice of milking heifers and cows with trading topping at £2900 to average £2013 a drop of £368 on the month.
North West Farmers sponsored the February sale with the top price going to the Wreaywood herd of the Wilson family from Woodside Farm. Wreaywood Mopan Allah sold for 2,900gns she was freshly calved in her second and was giving 48kgs and was sired by Mopan. This exceptional consignment of 10 cows averaged £2405 that included Wreaywood Lucky Allah who sold for £2800.
The Nydie herd from Clackmae Farm in Berwickshire topped the heifer trade with Nydie Morris Sally who sold for £2800. She was sired by AltaMorris and was giving 44kgs.
Evening Holsteins from Thursby sold a super powerful group of heifers and topped at £2700 for Evening Sidekick Eclipse who was bred from a Fitz dam who gave over 15000kgs as a three year old
Wormanby Holsteins sold an outstanding group of cows all producing over 50kgs with Wormanby Kimball Ruby selling for £2800 who was milking in her third lactation.
British Friesian topped at £2550 for a second lactation cow consigned by the Neil family from Thornington Farm in Northumberland. She was sired by Winnoch Incognito, this super group of four averaged £2400.
An impressive group of Montbeliarde cross bred heifers averaged £1825 and topped £2300 for a classy uddered heifer giving 46kgs from the Bridge End herd of the Dent family from Kirby Thore.
North Corbelly Farming sold a robust group of high EBI bred cows ideal for grazing systems. These cows were confirmed in calf to the Angus for July and August, they averaged £1676 and topped at £1900 twice for two second lactation cows producing close to 30kgs.
A cracking group of In Calf heifers mostly due in march topped at £1750 to average £1538. Topping at £1750 was Beath Mogul Jenkins was consigned by Fraser Thompson from Kirkton Farm in Fife, she was sired by Mogul and was bred from a VG dam with super high butterfat and protein.
