PRIME BULLS – A good entry and better show of 82 Prime bulls forward selling dearer again on the week.
Twelve bulls sold over £1900 and seven sold over £2000 to a days top of £2765.92 for a 863kg British Blue from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres Mains, Lanark and purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Jewitt, Gracies Farm, Barnard Castle sold three bulls to average £2388.69 and 313.61 to a days top of £2544.66 for 804kg. Limousins to £2139.37 for 698kgs from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan also Messrs Horn, Lower Griseburn, Appleby to £2124.94 for 724kgs. Aberdeen Crosses to £1885.59 for 738kgs from Messrs Wilson, Low Farm, Penrith.
Top overall pence per kilo of 320.5p went to Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres Mains, Lanark for this British Blue. Limousin crosses to 307.5 for 666kg from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle.
Dairy bred bulls sold to £1481.84 for a 669 kg Montbelairde from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown and the same vendor sold top Friesian to £1437.15 for 670 kgs. Messrs Armour, Milton, Moffat sold Holstein Friesian to £1415.88 for 648kgs. Top pence per kilo of 229.50p went to a 562kg and 589kg Friesian from Messrs Preston, Wed Holme House, Wigton. Messrs Thompson, East Unthank Farm sold the top priced Limousin cow for 871kg, 256.5p, £2234 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick and a British Blue cross cow sold for 784kg, 259.5p, £2034 and sold to Owain Llyr. Messrs Faulder, Amazone House sold the top price Charolais cow for 975kg, 207.5p, £2023 to Pickstock. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a Limousin cow for 803kg, 249.5p, £2003 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Johnstone & Son, Low Flow sold a Limousin cross heifer for 719kg, 263.5p, £1894 to Eric Hall. Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh sold the top price Simmental cow for 770kg, 237.5p, £1824 to Sean McGimpsey. Messrs Little, Greenhill Farms run of cows topped at 682kg, 263.5p, £1707 to Sean McGimpsey.

PRIME SHEEP: Numbers remained steady on the week with a big difference in price now being witnessed with top end types as good to sell as ever with commercial types remaining subject to a suppressed demand. An all in average of £108.36 was achieved which equates to 245pph with an SQQ of 256p all three showing a positive on the week. Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton lead today’s prices with 45kg Blue Texel lambs selling at £158 to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston. Four other vendors broke the £150 barrier this week with some lovely quality at the top end of market. Messrs Sparke & Son, Little Swinburne Farm, Hexham was responsible for the top pph selling 42kg lambs at £153 or 364.3p per kilo to Mr Andrew Dawson.
