The annual North Country Cheviot in lamb show and sale held at Lockerbie Mart on Saturday saw a packed ringside of buyers who had travelled from Caithness to Cornwall, resulting is a great clearance rate and prices being achieved.
Mr George Milne, of the Kinaldy flock scoop both the top price and Overall Champion with a Park shearling gimmer sired by Achalone Valiant, scanned carrying twins to Nun Cote Nook Braveheart and sold to £3200 to SCS Groundcare, Scarborough.
Philiphaugh Estates sold the next best, the 2nd prize park gimmer, sired by Hightae Alcatraz and carrying a single to Carruthers City Lights. She won Reserve Champion in the pre sale show, kindly judged by Mr Ben Baker who purchased her for £1800 for his BB flock, in South Wales.
A quartet of sheep sold to the next best price of £1000, firstly by the 2nd prize Park ewe, scanned twins to Carruthers City Lights from the Philiphaugh flock to Messrs Webster, Derbyshire.
Followed by 2 Park hoggs from Jennifer Cowan, Hightae flock, both sired by Humbleheugh Allan and sold to Messrs Rogers, Cornwall and Messrs James, Derbyshire respectively.
The final to reach £1000 and fetching the top priced Hill was a gimmer from the Kelso Flock, of Kelsocleugh Farming, she was by Esk Vince and out of a Whitchesters Saltire daughter, she sold to Mr Thompson, Hownam Grange flock.
The next best in the Hill section was a Black ewe by a Finlarg ram, she sold in lamb to Dalrachie Billy The Kid for £850 to Firm of Knockgray Farms, Castle Douglas.
Finally the 1st prize Hill type was also won by Mr George Milne, a gimmer sired by Kinaldy Ace of Spades and sold in lamb to Longoe Bullseye for £800 to Messrs Dewey, St Andrews, Fife.
Averages – 22 Aged Ewes £585; 39 Gimmers £620; 27 Hoggs £402.96; 88 Overall £544.65
