Borderway Store Cattle Sale

STORE CATTLE – On Wednesday 15th February Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store cattle where once again beat all expectations with trade on fire for another week.  The steers sold to average £1396.20 and heifers to £1369.21 for a predominantly show of Dairy bred cattle.   Topping the sale overall at £2100 was a quality Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Moffat, Stone House, Gretna.  Messrs Johnston, Orton Hall, Carlisle run of 17 heifers topped at £1980 and saw a healthy average of £1757.06 for Limousin crosses and Aberdeen Angus crosses.  Messrs Cooper, Hallmoor, Carlisle sold their best heifer to £1960.  British Blues peaked at £1880 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth.

Steers saw a days top of £2000 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Slack, Newby Farm, Carlisle.  A Hereford cross from Messrs Johnstone, Westray Farm, peaked at £1980.  Aberdeen Angus from High Bow Farming, Carlisle topped at £1890, British Blue crosses to £1820 from Messrs Coates, Beckhall, Canonbie and Beef Shorthorns to £1800 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.  Black and white steers were exceptionally well sold with first time vendors Messrs Fisher, Low Milton, Newton Stewart making their mark selling the top priced Holsteins and Holsteins Friesians to £1440 and £1430 and averaged a massive £1420 for 26 in total.
