PRIME BULLS: A much smaller and plainer show of 60 Prime bulls forward selling to a sharp trade once again. Top overall was a 1024kg Simmental from Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House, Lockerbie which sold to £2759.66 and purchased by A & D Meats. Charolais to £2474.21 for 843kg from Messrs Campbell, Thrunton Farm Alnwick purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. 693kg Limousin topped at £2144.84 from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith and purchased by Field Fresh. This same animal was also top ppk of 309.5p. Black and white bulls peaked at £1667.33 for a 705kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie and purchased by Jewitt Meats, Spennymoor. Holstein Friesians to £1539 for 648kg from Messrs Crozier, Cowlyers Farm, and top price per kilo of 237.5p was attained for the same animal as well as a 529kg Friesian from Messrs Moscrop & Waugh, Albyfield, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: A larger entry of 72 Prime steers and heifers forward with a varied mixture of quality throughout. Trade remains very buoyant despite this, and saw a days top of £2254 for a 784kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse Farm, Carlisle. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold a 741kg Limousin cross to £2182.25 both purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1969.10 for 812kg from McCormick Farms, Valley Fields, Stranraer and purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Top pence per kilo steer at 315.5 went to a Limousin cross form Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby for 635kg and bought be Bowland Foods. Messrs Dent sold a further two to 309.5p for 674kgs and 301.5p for 666kgs
Heifers sold to £2105.99 for 647kg Limousin cross from Messrs Cleasby, Linden House, Penrith and purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers Ship, Corby Hill, Carlisle. Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close, Maryport sold a 762kg Limousin cross to £2099.31 purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Top overall pence per kilo of 315.5 was paid for the aforementioned 647kg Limousin from Messrs Cleasby. This same home sold a 636kg to 323.5p and 577kg to 319.5p

Handy weight hoggs were the trade of the day with an SQQ average of 257p which is up 10p on the week. Topping the sale was an outstanding 49kg Dutch Texel from E M Johnston, Springfield selling for £152.5. Top price per kilo went to M & GS Nelson, Braithwaite for a smart pen of three 39kg Dutch texels selling to 341ppk.
