Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Annual Kirkby Classic Prize sale of potential show and store cattle. When a catalogue entry of 498 cattle were on offer.
Topping the sale at £4,000 was 12 month old British Blue heifer from Messrs Pedley, Oaktree Farm, Barbon which was bought by Messrs Hutchinson, Bail Hill, Forest in Teesdale.
The pre sale show was very kindly judged by well known cattle showman Mr Phil Sellers, Lincoln who carried out his duties in professional manor.
The overall champion was awarded to the first placed haltered heifers a 9 month old Limousin cross which sold for £3300 from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown, Haltwhistle which Sold to Messrs Dickinson, Park Gate Farm, Ashbourne.

Champion - M/s Smith-Jackson, Hightown - £3300
The overall reserve championship was awarded to the first placed un-haltered Limousin heifer from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown which went on to sell for £3000 to Messrs Wynne, Hall Farm House, Snitterton.

Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon sold the first placed Haltered British Blue cross heifer to make £3,9000 at 8 months old which sold to Messrs Sutcliffe, Wetwang.
Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton sold a 8 month old Limousin cross heifer to make £3,4000 to Messrs Tippetts, Lodge Hill Farm, Shifnal.
Messrs Bell, Hilltop Farm, Keswick sold a 9 month old Limousin cross heifer to make £3100 selling to Messrs Swales, Goole.
Messrs Lawson, Buddle House, Richmond sold a 12 month old Limousin cross heifer to make £3,000 to Messrs Gratton, Matlock.
Steers sold to £1,905 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Whiehead, Thwaite Farm, Richmond which was bought by D Barker.
Messrs Pedley, Oaktree Farm, Barbon sold a 10 month old British Blue cross steer to make £1800 selling to Parkin Butchers, Scunthorpe.
Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown sold a 8 month old British Blue cross steer to make £1800 selling to Messrs Bentley, Thirsk.
Messrs Bell, Hilltop Farm, Keswick sold 11 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1765.
Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby sold 12 month old Limousin cross steers to make £1725 and 11 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1715.
Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold 10 month old Limousin cross steers to make £1665 and £1645.
33 show cattle sold to average £2506.25.
In the store cattle heifers averaged £1370.18 (up £82.73 on the year), Steers averaged £1320.31 (up £115.68 on the year).
The Kirkby Classic is ever growing in popularity year on year with over 60 buyers in attendance from as far afield as Leicestershire and Shropshire
Store cattle especially younger 8-12 month steers and heifers were said to be the dearest trade seen so far!
