Twelve bulls sold over £2000 to a days top of £2578.95 for a 1042kg Charolais from Messrs Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Dumfries purchased by Worsley Wholesale Butchers. Messrs Campbell, Thrunton, Alnwick sold 841kgs to £2384.24. Limousins sold to £2516.37 for 821kgs from Messrs Donald, Denton Mains, Brampton and purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas sold 869kgs to £2507.07 to A & D Meats. Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Melmerby, Penrith topped at £2465.68 for 784kg. PRIME SHEEP: A larger entry of hoggs today saw all classes rise in price again this week leaving further optimism for the rest of the season. Although averages show a minor increase, a far heavier show with a smaller percentage of best export types saw the per head average rise to £111.32.
Kevin Sparke, Little Swinburn, Hexham brought his last load of lambs for the year and ended on a high topping the sale at £161 for a 60kg hogg selling to Mr M Lomax. Willie Laird, Unity, Brampton, brought his usual quality offering selling the top price per kilo at 380p for Dutch Texel lambs selling to Mr Robert Skelton.
Hill lambs sold well, in particular handy weights with Cheviots from Messrs Dotchin, Cumcatch to 256.1p. Black Face from Messrs Coulthard, Brisco Hill, Longtown to 251.2p with a top gross of £119 again for Blackies from Messrs Wilson, Street Head.
