BIG APPLE TOPS FOR BOCLAIR
The breeders and consignors at the March Border & Lakeland sale must be congratulated on the exceptional quality of the animals on offer. Trade topped at 6,000gns to average £2271 per life, several animals sold well below their true value with the trade in general down on the month as a result of recent reductions to farmgate milk prices.
Finance For Farms and Paragon Veterinary Group sponsored the show and Neil Millar from Woodhousehill Farm near Lockerbie judged the pre-sale classes. For the second consecutive month the Denmire herd owned by the Dennison family from near Ulverston won the overall Championship. Denmire Homeground Sundae was the winning Senior Heifer in milk and Champion she was sired by Morningview Homeground and recently classified VG85 2yr only a few days calved. The Sundae cow family at Denmire is renowned for breeding many super lifetime producers including MT Sundae EX95 who produced over 200ton in her lifetime. This super uddered heifer sold for 3,000gns to the judge.

Mr Millar selected Boclair Lambda Apple as his Reserve Champion, she was consigned by David Brewster from near Glasgow and she sold for the top price of the day at 6,000gns to Mr Allen from N. Ireland. This classy uddered Lambda daughter is a direct descendant of the legendary KHW Regiment Apple Red who over the last ten years has transformed the Holstein breed through her prolific transmitting power. Her dam was a VG88 Atwood with super high butterfat and protein; two sister to the dam by Jordy and Crushtime have also sold in the Club sales for 6,500gns and 5,200gns respectively.

The Kingcaird herd owned by Peter Kemp from Aberdeen sold three heifers to average almost £2900 and topped at 4,000gns for Hillstar Swingman Raquel Red who was purchased by the Hastwell family from Kirby Stephen. Raquel was sired by Westcoast Swingman Red and bred from an Excellent 93 pointed Barbwire daughter followed by another ten generations of Excellent dam going back to DRA August.
The Espland herd sold fourteen fresh heifers and topped at 2,900gns for Espland Lambda Rhapsody who was purchased by Baltier Farming in Newton Stewart. Rhapsody had strength, power, width and probably the best udder in the sale being bred from an impressive sire stack of Lineman, Aftershock, Shottle and Allen.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 22nd March and features over 400 dairy cattle in the Rossiebank dispersal sale. This catalogue can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
