Dorset Spring Stars Sale

The fifth annual Spring Stars show and sale of Poll Dorset and Dorset Horn sheep held at Carlisle saw a top price of 1600gns achieved for the Supreme Champion, Hydes Franzi from Jeremy Durrant’s flock based in Essex. He won first prize in the ram lamb class and was sired by Ballytaggart Diplomat and out of a Sherborne ewe. He was purchased as a new stock ram for Cheeklaw Brae farming, Scottish Borders.

The Pembroke Flock scooped the Reserve Championship title and also the second top price of the day. Pembroke Fancy Feet sold for 1300gns, a September born ram lamb by Ballymaconnelly Eminem and out of a Downkillybegs Picasso daughter, selling to Messrs Waller, Carnforth, Lancashire.

Stobilee Flying Scotman sold for 800gns, the first son offered for sale by 6600gn Downkillybegs Dazzler and out of Stobilee Cartier. He sold to Mr Robert Fleming, Castle Sinniness, Wigtownshire.

The Hydes flock also secured the top price female, with their Reserve Champion attaining 550gns. A September born ewe lamb by Richhill Extrovert and out of a homebred dam, joining the Castle Sinniness flock of Robert Flemming.

A trio attained the next best at 500gns, firstly 2 gimmers from the Stobilee flock of Alistair Morton, Lanarkshire. Sired by Dun Eiden Cromwell and Stobilee Double D, selling online to Messrs Sparks, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales and Messrs Playford, Norfolk respectively.  The third came from the Dun Eideann flock of Messrs Rankine, Fife, with the third prize ram lamb Dun Eideann Ferguson, he was sired by Ballytaggart Digger and out of a homebred ewe, selling to local breeder Messrs Armstrong, Bootle, Cumbria.
