Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 4,400 sheep were forward consisting of 3,838 prime hoggs and 562 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £230 (547.6p/kg and 469.4p/kg) were two pens od four Beltex hoggs weighing 42kg and 49kg consigned by Messrs Wood, Broadwater, Aberdeenshire. This same home sold 45kg Blue Texel hoggs to make £200.

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pen of 48kg Beltex cross hogg to make £187, with another pen of ten 43kg hoggs from this home making £185 (430.2p/kg) and a pen of eighteen 45kg hoggs selling for £180, and a pen of twenty 42kg hoggs making £177.

The consignment of 70 hoggs from this home sold to average 44kg £177.47 (403.3p/kg)

Stuart Wood, Aberdeenshire sold 46kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £180, with the consignment of 26 hoggs from this home averaging 45.3kg £190.08 (418.8p/kg).

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of five 47kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £178 and a pen of 48kg Texel cross hoggs making £178 with a pen of fifteen 40kg Beltex cross hoggs making £177 (442.5p/kg) and a pen if ten 39kg hoggs making £172 (441p/kg) from this home. The run of 118 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 43kg £163.11 (379.3p/kg).

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm sold 45kg and 47kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £178 with a pen of 40kg hoggs making £174 (435p/kg).

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of thirteen 34kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £158.50 (466.2p/kg).

An SQQ average of 314.47p/kg and an overall average of 302.23p/kg £133.82 for 3838 hoggs which includes over 1600 horned hill and Mule hoggs.

Heavy hoggs were a flying trade with Messrs Dent, Elm House, Bolton selling 55kg hoggs to make £185.

Messrs Skelton, Newhall farm, Maryport sold 63kg hoggs to make £178.

Messrs Mason, East Farm sold 52kg hoggs to make £178.

Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate sold 61kg hoggs to make £175.

Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton sold two pens of 53kg Blue Texel and Dutch Texel cross hoggs to make £175.

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £142 for a pen of thirty 47kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with this same home selling a pen of thirty 45kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £138 (306.7p/kg) a pen of thirteen 44kg hoggs to make £134 (304.5p/kg) and a pen of thirty 46kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £139 (302.2p/kg).

The consignment of 400 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown Farm sold to average 45kg £132.04 (293.4p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £175 for 76kg hoggs from Messrs Teasdale, Ling Cottage, Penrith.

Hill cheviot hoggs sold to £150 for a pen of 55kg from Messrs Turnbull, Boghall.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm sold a pen of seventeen 44kg hoggs to make £140 (318.2p/kg).

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall sold thirty-nine 43kg hill cheviot hoggs to make £136.50 (317.4p/kg) with a pen of twenty two 39kg Cheviot hoggs selling for £123.50 (316.7p/kg) and a pen of twenty 41kg cheviots making £128.50 (313.4p/kg). The consignment of 302 Hill Cheviot hoggs from Bog Hall sold to average 41.3kg £128.14 (310.03p/kg).

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife sold a pen of 70kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £173 with pens of sixteen 65kg Suffolks making £167 eighteen 56kg Suffolks making £160 and a pen of twenty two 55kg Suffolks making £154.50 all from Boghall.

The run of 105 Suffolk cross hoggs from Boghall sold to average 55kg £155.19 (282.2p/kg)

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown sold a pen of ten 64kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £170 with another pen of thirty 52kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £150 from this home.

Mule hoggs sold to £141 for a pen of 56kg from Boghall, Fife.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm sold a pen of twenty six Mule hoggs to make £130 (288.9p/kg).

Swaledale hoggs sold to £134 for a pen of 66kg hoggs from Messrs Gowland, woodbine House, Ireshopeburn.
