BREWMASTER TOPS FOR BANKVIEW HERD

FLECKVIEH BULLS TOP AT 5K TWICE

Borderway was once again packed to capacity with just over 1400 head of cattle selling through four busy rings.  The April dairy sale had almost 300 dairy cattle on offer with exceptional quality from start to finish.  Trade topped at £2700 for a milking heifer with the average for milking cattle coming to £2167.  The overall top price at 5,000gns was realised twice for Fleckvieh bulls consigned by SQ Genetics from N. Ireland.           

Agri-King sponsored the April sale with the top price going to the Bankview herd of the Walton family from Kirby Stephen.  Bankview Brewmaster Audrey sold for 2,700gns she was freshly calved in her first and was giving 35kgs, she was sired by Maple Wood Brewmaster, her grand dam and third dam were both high scoring Excellent cows. 

The Nydie herd from Clackmae Farm in Berwickshire sold a tremendous group of 15 freshly calved heifers to average £2138 and topped £2650 for Nydie Altamonson Pansy. 

The Cambus herd from Nether Pratis Farm in Fife sold a super impressive group of high yielding Holstein heifers to average £2157 and topped at £2650 for Cambus Ardor Tory.

Holstein cows topped at £2600 for Downview Black Anita from the McCamley family from Knockshiffnock Farm in Ayrshire.  She was giving 50kgs and was bred from a VG dam. 

British Friesians topped at £2050 for a milking heifer consigned by the Neil family from Thornington Farm in Northumberland.

The Swaites herd from Lanarkshire topped the Ayrshire trade at £2200 for a Sandyford Time Lord daughter from their famous Dilly cow family and they also topped the Jersey trade with a very special daughter of Citation that sold for £2300. 

Paul Harrison from the Chishillways herd in Northumberland sold two awesome uddered Sound System daughters bred from two of his best Dairy Shorthorn lines form £2500 and £2400 respectively.

The sale included the dispersal of the Cumcatch herd from Brampton on behalf of the Dotchin family.  This quality group of cows and heifers averaged £1560 and topped at £2,300 for a super balanced Dairy Shorthorn cross cow miking in her fourth lactation. 

Following the sale of milkers there was an elite group of 12 Pedigree Fleckvieh bulls consigned by SQ Genetics.  These bulls all qualified in the top 1% of the breed when analysed on the Austrian genomic system.  This fine group averaged £4121 and topped twice at 5,000gns.  The first was for a son of Mackay with almost 1300kgs of milk and 96kg of butterfat.  He was purchased by Mr Huri from Orkney.  Mr Henderson from Annan also paid 5,000gns for a Hashtag son bred from a dam with over 12000kgs at 5.75% butterfat.

Balcurvie sold a well bred and well-developed group of in calf heifers to average £1606 and topped at £1800 for a daughter of the high PLI sire VH Norland Nader.

An outstanding group of bulling heifers from the Acrehead herd in Dumfries sold to a top of £1250 twice to average £1206.

Cumrew Farming Partners sold 25 heifer calves born in March from their productive Irish Friesian and Jersey cross bred spring calving herd to average £270 with several selling for £300.
