Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,350 sheep were forward consisting of 2,815 prime hoggs, 3 spring lambs and 532 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £210 was a 46kg Beltex cross hogg from Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Penrith.

Topping at 523p/kg were a pen of nineteen 37kg Beltex hoggs which sold for £193.50 from Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton.

This same home also sold a pen of twelve 42kg hoggs to make £209 (497.6p/kg) with another pen of thirteen 45kg hoggs making £204 and a pen of sixteen 43kg hoggs making £202 also from this home. The 91 fantastic hoggs from East Farm sold to average 41.5kg £198.16 (477.5p/kg)

Also selling for £204 was a 45kg hogg from Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate.

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York topped at £198 for a pen of five 47kg hoggs, with a pen of eleven 39kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £190.50 (488.5p/kg) with another two pens of eighteen and fourteen 40kg hoggs making £195 (487.5p/kg) and a pen of six 38kg hoggs making £181 (476.3p/kg). The consignment of 168 wonderful hoggs from Jojo sold to average 42kg £182.03 (433.4p/kg).

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pen of five 47kg hoggs to make £199.

Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Penrith sold three 38kg hoggs to make £182.50 (480.3p/kg)

A phenomenal SQQ average of 347.51p/kg £148.93 and an overall sale average of 328.7p/kg for 2815 hoggs was achieved which includes over 1200 horned, hill and Mule hoggs.

All classes wights and breed can only be described as a flyer, with an overall sale average of £148.93 being achieved!

Heavy hoggs were the dearest seen for some time, with a pen of 56kg hoggs selling for £198 from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, with a pen of 51kg making £189 from this home.

Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn sold a pen of 55kg Texel cross hoggs to make £196.

53kg Texel cross hoggs sold to £189 from Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap.

Messrs Robshaw, Beck House Farm, Tadcaster sold two pens of 50kg hoggs to make £185 and £184.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £179 for a pen of twenty five 63kg hoggs from Messrs McLaren, Fife, with this same home selling two pens of twenty five 60kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £172, and a pen of twelve 61kg Suffolk hoggs at £170.

Messrs McLaren also sold a pen of twenty five 57kg Cheviot Mule hoggs to make £165, with another pen of twenty five 55kg cheviot mules making £159.50 (290p/kg) from this home.

The consignment of 360 Suffolk cross and Cheviot Mule hoggs from Messrs McLaren sold to average 56kg £160.79.

Cheviot hoggs sold to £170 from Messrs Teasdale, Lynsack Farm, Bishop Auckland.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold a pen of ten 53kg Cheviot hoggs to make £158 (298.1p/kg).

Cheviot hoggs also sold to top at 343.9p/kg for a pen of thirty five 41kg hoggs which sold for £141 from Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife, with this same home selling a pen of forty four 43kg cheviot hoggs to make £147.50 (343p/kg) and a oen of twenrty five42kg Cheviots making £144 ~(342.9p/kg) and a pen of thirty 46kg Cheviots making £152 from this home.

Suffolk cross hoggs from Boghall also sold to 293p/kg for a pen of nineteen 57kg hoggs which made £167.

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £149 for a pen of twenty eight 52kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown who also sold a pen of thirty two 47kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £147, and a pen of twenty five 44kg Blackfaced hoggs making £143 (325p/kg) and another pen of twenty five weighing 43kg making £140 (325.6p/kg).

Swaledale hoggs sold to £146 for 51kg from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, Milburn.

Swaledale hoggs also topped at 304.1p/kg for a pen of 37kg hoggs which sold for £112.50 from Messrs Rutherford, Irestone, Barnard Castle.

With this same home selling a pen of seventeen 38kg Swaledale hoggs to make £109.50 (288.2p/kg)
