BERRYHOLME TOP WITH THEIR BEST ASSET

Quality was in abundance at the April Border & Lakeland show and sale as was the exceptional pedigrees that filled the catalogue.  Trade topped at 5,500gns to average £2312 per life, with ten animals selling for or more than three thousand.  

Finance For Farms sponsored the show and John Graham from Mains of Burnbank Farm near Stirling judged the pre-sale classes.  Robert & Jane Steel from the Kepculloch herd were awarded the two top spots winning Champion and Reserve Champion for the 1st and 2nd place Junior Heifers in milk.  Kepculloch Crushtime Rose was the Champion heifer and sold for 3,500gns to the judge.  She was bred from the home bred Rose cow family with an impressive sire stack of Lambda, Doorman, History then an Excellent 93 AltaRoss.

The Reserve Champion went to Kepculloch Haniko Mary who sold for 4,400gns to Jason Booth in N. Ireland.  She was the youngest heifer in the sale having calved at one year ten months.  She was bred from nine generations of Excellent or Very Goods going back to the Medway herd in Ontario; her sixth dam being the sister to the famous show cow in N. Ireland, Medway Supreme Maude EX97.  Four other heifers sold from the Kepculloch herd to average £3163.

David and Francis Wright from the Berryholme herd near Kendal sold three outstanding animals to average £3955 and topped the overall trade with Berryholme Tatoo Asset who sold for 5,500gns, going to the Dixon family near Aspatria.  She was bred from a Doorman dam that currently is scored VG88 followed by MS Apples Uno Armana EX94 the dam of proven sire Apple Pie Red, next dam is the record breaking KHW Regiment Apple Red. 

The Errolston herd sold four incredible young cows all bred from highly sought after and valuable pedigrees to average £3290.  Topping his special group from the Davidson family was Errolston Talent Destiny who sold for 4,200gns going to Mr Coulthurst from near Preston.  She was bred from an Excellent Silver dam, this pedigree was packed with famous prolific brood cows including Markwell Blackstar Raven.   

The Dalserf Holstein herd sold six strong heifers all with excellent legs and feet and super attached udders giving oceans of milk to average £2651 topping at 3,100gns for Dalserf Leap Taylor who was bought by Mr Denholm from near Stirling. 

The Denmire herd owned by the Dennison family from near Ulverston sold four very special heifers to average £2651 and topped at 2,900gns for Denmire Redcarpet Marie Anne who was bought by the Gilmour family from Ayrshire.  Her third dam was Denmire Goldwyn Marie 102 probably the best brood cow that has been developed within the Denmire herd producing many high scoring Excellent cows and several international proven sons.  

The Espland herd sold twelve fresh heifers and topped at 2,800gns for Espland Applicable Angela who was purchased by Mr Brewster from near Stirling.  Angela was sired by Stantons Applicable and bred from three Very Good dams with huge records.
