PRIME CATTLE: A good entry for Bank Holiday with 56 forward selling to a great trade, once again, quality was mixed and less on the whole, nevertheless the sale saw 18 sell at £2000 or more to a top of £2309.85 for 787kg from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold another to £2306,57 to Eric Hall.  British Blues to £2171.90 for 740kg from Mr Nicholson, The Lake, purchased by Morgan Helliwell.  Herefords to £2058 from Messrs Baird, Red Hall, Wigton purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers Shop, Corby Hill and 744 kg Charolais cross from Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh, Carlisle to £2042.28 purchased by Mr Eric Hall.  Top pence per kilo of 318.5p went to a 685kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton and was purchased by Owain Llyr, Ruthin.

Heifers sold to £2244.53 for 778kg from Messrs Hall, Prior Hall, Wigton and £2203.35 for 794kg from Messrs Taylor, Skirling Craigs, Biggar and were both purchased by Mr Eric Hall.  Limousin cross heifers sold to £2014.23 for 713kg from Messrs Wigham, Coldshields, Haltwhistle and purchased by Black Brow Abattoir.  Limousins cross also made top overall pence per kilo of 327.5p for 575kg from Messrs Bowe Bothel Parks, Wigton selling to Owain Llyr.

PRIME BULLS: Yet another great entry of 75 Prime bulls forward for yet another Bank Holiday Monday, quality was lacking throughout but what a trade received for those who showed.  Topping the sale overall at £2172.83 was a 783kg Limousin cross from Messrs Jarman, Brow Top, Workington and purchased by Morgan Helliwell.  Messrs Pickering, Peel Flatt, Hexham sold their best bull to date to a top at £2154.20 to A & D Meats and another to £2153.41 to Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax.  Simmentals to £2071.10 for 741kg from Messrs Mair, Blackpark, Dumfries purchased by A & D Meats, 626kg British Blues to £1862.35 from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle to Field Fresh Trading.  The same home also sold top Aberdeen Angus cross to £1856.48 for 669kgs to Black Brow Abattoir, Wigton.  Top overall pence per kilo also came from Beck House peaking at 317.5 for a 599kg Limousin cross and was purchased by Jewitt Meats, Spennymoor.  Messrs Routledge, Netherton, Brampton sold 604kg to 314.5p again to Jewitt Meats.  Dairy bred bulls sold to a top of £1829.17 for a 797kg Fleckvieh from Messrs Martin, Horseholm, Dumfries and Friesians to £1750.15 for 710kg from Messrs Bland, Flatt, Brampton with the same animal also achieving top pence per kilo of 246.5p.

Mr Gate, Brackendene sold the top priced Charolais cow for 930kg, 233.5ppk or £2171 to Messrs Roberts. Mr George Brough, Old Rectory Farm sold the top priced Limousin cow for 936kg, 229.5ppk or £2148 to Messrs Roberts. Messrs Ashley, Laithes Farm sold a Limosuin cross for 848kg, 247.5ppk or £2098 to Messrs Roberts. Messrs Currie, Skewbridge Farm sold the top priced Aberdeen Angus cow for 877kg, 235.5ppk or £2065 to Les Fell. Messrs Fawcett, Silver How Farm sold a young Limousin cross cow for 659kg, 249.5ppk or £1644 to Alan Jarvis. Messrs Scott, Dinley Farm sold two Bazadaise cows for 513kg, 249.5ppk or £1279 and to 529kg, 247.5ppk or £1309 both purchased by Mr Sean McGimpsey.  Messrs Ridley, Woodhall cows topped at 759kg, 247.5ppk or £1878 for a Limousin cross to Mr Michael Helliwell. Messrs Studholme & son, Nealhouse Farm sold a British Blue cross cow for 807kg, 237.5ppk or £1916 to Scotbeef.

Only 106 dairy cast cows were forward with trade moving to a different level averaging 177.5ppk up 5p on the week. Bluestones Farming run of Fleckvieh cows sold to a top of 965kg, 209.5ppk or £2021 and to 879kg, 215.5pk or £1894 and to 955kg, 195.5ppk or £1867, 874k, 195.5ppk or £1708 and to 688kg, 227.5ppk or £1565 to Messrs Roberts, Les Fell and Sean McGimpsey. Messrs Vance, Bridgehouse Farm sold the top priced Holstein cross cows for 935kg, 187.5ppk or £1753 to Scotbeef.

Messrs Workman, Beeches sold the top priced Montbelairde cross cow for 769kg, 227.5ppk or £1749 to Les Fell. Messrs Martin, Horseholm Farm sold a Fleckvieh heifer for 694kg, 247.5ppk or £1717 to Sean McGimpsey. Messrs Pattinson & son, Walby Hall sold a Holstein cross cow for 820kg, 197.5ppk or £1619 to Les Fell. PRIME SHEEP: A fabulous entry of 1829 prime sheep were forward at Borderway on Monday, all classes were a flying trade. 450 ewes sold to a top of £240 for texels from Mohan Farms, Fivemiletown with an unbelievable sale average of £130.19 putting Borderway among the ewe elite. 129 spring lambs sold to £215 for Suffolk cross lambs from Charlotte Wilson, Evening Hill, Wigton which sold to Steven Wilson Butchers, Corby Hill and 455p for a pen of 5 from M L Fell, Harley Croft, Wigton. Hoggs sold to average 300p, SQQ 318p to a top of £210 for Texels from John Fell, Stanger Hill and to 500p per kilo for Beltex from G Cartmell, Holland Farm
