Borderway Ewe & Lamb show and sale

On Bank Holiday Monday, the 8th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of Ewes and Lambs.

A show of 1239 were forward to a simply blistering trade from start to finish, with the sale being described as ‘the crowing jewel of the Royal weekend.’ A total sale average of £114.47 was achieved across all sections with a full ringside of buyers desperate to purchase outfits.

Shearling Gimmers with lambs were a ferocious trade, with the top price of £200 per life from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale selling a fantastic Texel ewe with a Beltex lamb. Beltex ewes topped at £195 per life from the same home.

Aged Mules topped at £116 for a pair of Texel twins from JL Robley, Low Wood Bank. Suffolk ewes topped at £170 per life with a massive single lamb from Mr Dodd, Tundergarth Mains.

Hoggs met a blistering trade with a total average of £121.70 being achieved across all breeds. Topping the hoggs was a Beltex hogg with a belter of a Beltex lamb selling to £228 per life again from Messrs Livingstone.

Texel’s topped at £155 from the same home as well as Messrs Carr, Highwood, Hexham. Mule hoggs topped at £124 from Messrs Ridsdale, Yew Tree Farm, for Mules with good single Texel lambs. 

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by J Scott Minerals and ably judged by Mr David Jarman, along with his daughter Ellie.

Winning Overall Champion Continental along with the Harry Fisher Memorial trophy was the first prize pen of Texel shearling gimmers with some tremendous Beltex lambs at foot consigned by N & A Bainbridge, Laneside, Barnard Castle, these sold for £172 per life.
