Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale

RED ROXY TOPS FOR AUCHENSALA

Buyers had a quality choice at the May Border & Lakeland sale with several elite pedigrees on offer and an incredible line up of world class udders.  Trade topped at 4,800gns with the milking animals averaging £2256 per life, with eight animals selling for or more than three thousand.  The sale finished with a special consignment of heifer calves from the Auchensala and Tynevalley breeding establishments that topped at 4,900gns to average £2489.   

Paragon Veterinary Group and Finance For Farms sponsored the show with William Oldfield from Gisburn judging the pre-sale classes.  He selected Boclair Delta-Lambda Joan as his overall champion who was consigned by David Brewster from near Glasgow.  Joan was giving 45kgs and topped the milking trade at 4,800gns going to the Caldwell family from Ayrshire.  Four other milky heifers from the Boclair herd averaged £2900.

Robert & Jane Steel from the Kepculloch herd were awarded the Reserve Champion rosette with Kepculloch Impression Musk who sold for 2,500gns to the Robinson family from Northumberland.  She was sired by Monument Impression and was bred from a 12000kgs Lambda dam.  The Kepculloch herd sold another three heifers including Kepculloch Arrow Summer who sold for 3,000gns and was bought by Mr Montgomery from Ayrshire.  This was one of the first Arrow daughters to sell in milk in the club sales and went back to the Royal Highland Champion, Kepculloch Rudolph Summer EX95.

Peter Kemp from Aberdeen sold three well bred heifers topping at 3,500gns for Leedham Attico Marcey Red.  Marcey was bred from nine generations of Excellent or Very Good cows going back to the Stonetown Holstein herd in Ontario, Canada.  She was probably the best uddered heifer to sell in the club sale for some time and was bought by Mr Coulthurst from near Preston.

The Denmire herd owned by the Dennison family from near Ulverston sold four super uddered heifers and topped at 3,100gns for Denmire Maimi Marie.  She had two Excellent 94 pointed cows in her pedigree that both produced over 100 ton lifetime.  She was purchased by Mr Brown from Ayrshire.

Ali Cook owner of the Auchensala Holstein herd sold nine well bred heifer calves from the Apple, Roxy, Supra and Kimo cow families to average £2514 and topped at 4,900gns for Auchensala Cheerful Rox Red who was purchased by Mr Scott from Ayrshire.  She was sired by Blondion Cheerful Red and is potentially the 13th generation of Excellent cows from this great line from Roxy. 

Hillhead Rimrock Cinnamon sold for 4,000gns to Mr Esquierdo from Ayrshire.  She was sired by Bomaz Rimrock and was bred from a great line of the Blondin Supra cow family with her third dam being the winning Grand Champion cow at the Royal Winter Fair, Blondin Destry Sally EX93.

Cameron Baty sold four tremendous heifer calves that were all show ready to average £2415 and topped at 4,000gns for Tynevalley Magnifique Bambi who was bought by the Smith family from Lanarkshire. She was sired by Peak AltaMagnifique with a GTPI+2664.  Her maternal family goes back to Braedale Baler Twine the dam of Goldwyn with many other super star sires in her direct line such as Brewmaster and Brawler.

The sale opened with a special group of embryos consigned by several leading breeds form the UK and USA.  The averaged almost £700 and topped at 1300gns for Dropbox embryos from a daughter of Siemers Luster Hanan VG89 2yr.
