PRIME CATTLE: Yet another good offering of 63 Prime steers and heifers forward.  Quality would be very mixed throughout and lots more weight was on offer.  Despite this trade would also be pennies better than last week and saw a days overall top of £2363.03 for a 735kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle purchased by Mr Eric Hall.  Messrs Telford, Edenlin, Carlisle sold 799kgs to £2233.21 and again purchased by Mr Eric Hall.  Charolais to £2336.40 for 944kg from Messrs Meek, Eland Hall Farm, Newcastle.  British Blue crosses to £2257.20 for 720kg from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake and purchased by Worsley Wholesale Butchers.  Aberdeen Angus cross steers to £2244.38 for 855kgs from Messrs Murray, Conheath, Dumfries purchased by  Mr Eric Hall.  Top overall pence per kilo of 321.5 went to the forementioned  735kg Limousin cross from The Lake Farm.  Others to 309.5 from Messrs Dent, Elm house, Appleby for 670kgs and 307.5 from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton for 528kgs.

Heifers peaked at £2180.79 for a 738kg Limousin cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House purchased by Mr Eric hall.  Charolais crosses to £1906.13 for 663 kg from Messrs Airey, New Grange, Maryport purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna sold top overall pence per kilo  at 325.50 for 592kgs to Steven Wilson Butchers Shop, Corby Hill, Carlisle.  Messrs Jardine, The Yett, Lockerbie sold another to 315.5 for 551 kg and purchased by Ballard Butchers, Castle Douglas

PRIME BULLS: A good offering of 91 Prime Bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby all classes would see a lift in trade.  No super stars were forward but a good steady offering of quality was evident.  Running into the top pick of the day was a 954kg Charolais from Messrs Cleasby, Linden House, Penrith achieving £2704.59 and purchased by A & D Meats.  Limousins sold to £2271.69 for 774kg from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth to Worsley Wholesale Butchers and Stabilisers crosses to £2134.75 for 977kgs from Messrs Allgood, Nunwick Hall, Hexham and purchased by Mr Les Fell, Settle.  704kg  Simmental crosses from Messrs McClanachan, Millhill, Lockerbie sold to £2024 and purchased by Jewitts Meats, Spennymoor.  Top overall pence per kilo of 294.5 twice both by Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna for their 712kg and 658kg Limousin crosses purchased by Field Fresh and Brookwood Abattoir.

Black and white bulls topped at £1797.88 for 757 kg Friesian from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie purchased by Jewitt Meats.  Holsteins to £1671.99 for 713kg from Messrs Stalker, Ratten Castle, Carlisle.  Top pence per kilo of 258.5 was paid to Messrs Reed, Croft House, Carlisle for a 550kg Friesian, this was purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.

Messrs Wood, Waters Farm sold the top priced Charolais cow for 997kg, 235.5p, £2347 to Messrs Roberts. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a British Blue cross cow for 807kg, 257.5p, £2078 to Les Fell. Messrs Harrison, Lesson Hall Farm sold a Limousin cross cow for 828kg, 247.5p, £2049 to Charles Kirkpatrick. PRIME SHEEP: A bumper show of all classes were forward at Borderway on Monday. Kicking off with the largest show of cast sheep Borderway has seen in many years, with almost 900 head forward. Travelled sheep were joined by a large local contingent all taking advantage of extreme rates seen recently. Leading the way at £285 was a pure texel ewe from T J McGee, Strabane with plenty others selling well in excess of £180. Mule Ewes sold to £148 from Messrs Donald, Denton Mains, Brampton with horned ewes to £118 from S McSwiggan, Co Tyrone.

Prime lamb numbers more than double on the week and were met with great interest ring side for all types and weights. Lightweight lambs 38 to 42kilo in particular saw premium being paid. Top price this week was an astonishing £235 for texel lambs from Messrs Hewitt, Cardewlees, Wigton who also led the price per kilo at 559.5p purchased by Lancashire Direct Ltd, Stockport. An overall average of 370ppk, £160.72 was achieved.

a seasonal entry of 800 prime hoggs once again were easily sold well fleshed hogs of all weights and grades regularly sold above and beyond 300ppk to a top of 447.6p paid for dutch texels from John McCrone, Beechcroft, Ivegill purchased by Bowland food ltd. Top per head was £190 for a pair of 50k texel hoggs from Mike and Marie Faulder, Penrith.
