PRIME CATTLE: A reasonably good show for a Bank Holiday with 44 forward selling to a very good trade throughout with five steers selling over £2200 and fifteen selling over £2000. Top overall on the day was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton at £2277.03 for 731kgs, next best was 765kg from Messrs Cape, Kirklands Guards, Wigton at £2245.28. Charolais from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton to £2256.21 for 774kgs and British Blue crosses to £2185.19 for 742kg from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle. Best pence per kilo was a 692kg Limousin cross from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas.
Heifers saw a day’s top of £2078.07 again from Messrs Craik, Waterside for 678 kgs. Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle sold 730kgs to £2076.85. Top overall pence per kilo at 323.5p went to Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton for 564kg.

PRIME BULLS: A much smaller entry of only 43 Prime bulls forward on Bank Holiday Monday in Borderway whereby bulls met a fantastic trade throughout selling to a days top of £2722.28 for a 981kg Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Rae, Boghead, Dumfries. Simmentals to £2126.25 from Messrs Gwynne, Castlewigg, Newton Stewart both purchased by A & D Meats and a 674kg British Blue cross from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle to £2018.63 purchased by Jewitt Meats. Top overall pence per kilo of 299.5p went to the aforementioned British Blue cross from Messrs Mitchinson.
Black and white bulls were forward in short supply and not a lot of flesh to be had either. The best of the day was a 574kg Holstein from Messrs Irving, Bectonhall, Canonbie to £1294.37 purchased by A & D Meats.

CAST COWS: A very pleasing entry of 200 cast cows was forward on Monday with all classes being in great demand. Messrs Pinguey, High House sold the top priced Limousin x cow for 854kg at 247.5p totaling £2113 bought by Frankie Smart. Smith & Shepherd, Glebelands sold the top priced British Blue x cow for 789kg at 261.5p totaling £2063 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a Limousin cow for 740kg at 267.6p totaling £1979 to Owain Llyr. Pearsbyhall Farming sold a Limousin x cow for 824kg at 239.5p totaling £1979 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Oliver, Cawfields’ run of cows topped 754kg at 259.5p totaling £1956 and 811kg at 237.5p totaling £1926 and 642kg at 271.5p totaling £1743 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick, Messrs Roberts & Les Fell.
A great demand for all dairy cast cows. Messrs Ramsey, Dockray Hall sold the top priced Friesian cow for 870kg at 205.5p totaling £1787 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Workman, Beeches sold the top priced Montbeliarde x cow for 794kg at 223.5p totaling £1774 to Messrs Roberts. Messrs Little & Son, Kirkbride House sold the top priced Norwegian Red cow for 820kg at 211.5p totaling £1734 to Scotbeef. PRIME SHEEP: A massive show of sheep this bank holiday Monday saw record numbers forward with a massive 1015 ewes 1110 hoggs and 510 lambs forward, this being unseen at this centre for the time of year and representing a ewe numbers record.
The 1010 ewes sold to a whopping £300 for pure Texel ewes from TJ Magee with plenty selling over £200 a head, Mules sold to £152 for first time consignors M/s Teasdale, Grindin Hills, Hexham with cast tups selling to £219 for a pen full again from TJ Magee.
A nice number of lambs forward with plenty pens selling well in excess of 400ppk this despite top end types in short supply. Leading the sale at £190 was M/s Maughan, Beck Farm selling to 413ppk. Top pence per kilo at 446.2p from Messrs Merrall, The Green
Over 1100 hoggs this week with meated types of all weights and grades a flying trade once again, with hoggs from 28-72kgs forward and all wanted with pen after pen over 300ppkg, topping the sale at £188 was a pen of 3 Texels from Messrs McGarva, Horseclose Farm, Annan.
Signing off the hoggs season in style was M/s Fell Stanger Hill , Wigton who has supported Borderway and Kirkby Stephen markets with sheep well over the last few months, John lead the pence per kilo at 364.4p for Blue Texel hoggs.
