Borderway Ewe & Lamb Late May show and sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Monday 29th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their ‘Late May’ show & sale of 800 ewes and lambs.

A fantastic show of Continental sheep were forward and met by one of the best trades this season.

Prior to the sale, a show took place and was expertly judge by local farmer Thomas Hunter, Upper Brydekirk. After much deliberation the Champion rosette was awarded to the pen of Hoggs from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale which later sold for £170 pr life and the Reserve going to Messrs Carr, Little Bavington for £172.

Top price of the day however went to Messrs Browell, whose pen of 5 shearlings with single lambs sold for £188 per life. Mr Browell’s run of 73 went on to level out at £153.42.

Moving onto hoggs which were met by a much-increased demand. Topping the sale was the Champion pen from Messrs Livingstone, Kirltevalw who sold to £182 per life. Highlights went to the Carr Family who sold a run of 44 superb Texel hoggs with Beltex lambs to average £165.09. Suffolks to £148 from Tony & Scott Dempster, Castlehill, whose run averaged £129 for 24. Mule hoggs with twins sold to £80 per life from Clive Houldey, Kirtleton House,

A total sale average of £110 per life was achieved with the sale being described as the dearest to date.
