WREAYWOOD TOPS JUNE SALE AT £3000
The sun was shining for the June monthly dairy sale with trade rising on the month to average £1981 for the milking cows and heifers. 342 animals sold topping at £3000 and were consigned from some of the best dairy farms in the north of England and Scotland. The sale featured a diverse range of dairy cattle with several breeds represented.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Wreaywood herd of the Wilson family from Carlisle. Wreaywood Cornell Lois sold for the top price of the day at £3000, she was sired by AltaCornell and was bred from a super dam sired by Fame with butterfat to 5.53% and protein to 3.62%. The top price cow came from the same home with Wreaywood Abro Lynne selling for £2800 with a further ten cows and heifers selling to average £2255.
The Errolston herd sold a tremendous group of cows and heifers topping at £2600 for Errloston Repairman Empress. Their will be a special group of 40 cows and heifers selling from the Errolston herd in the Border & Lakeland sale on the 21st June.
The Cambus herd from Nether Pratis Farm in Fife sold a super impressive group of high yielding Holstein heifers and cows and topped at £2450 for Cambus Ardor Pan.
The trade of the day went to the British Friesian that were consigned by several leading breeders. Topping this quality section was the Williamson family from Barrowmoor Farm in Appleby selling two powerful second calvers for £2450. This herd had the highest average of the day selling another eight cows and heifers to average £2287.
There was a special consignment from the Jackson family in Dumfries owners of the Coppside Holstein herd. They sold 50 cows and heifers in milk comprising 18 late lactation animals due again in the autumn with the rest having calved from February this year. This quality group of well bred animals topped at £2200 for Coppside Kathleen who was bred form two Excellent dams.
A quality group of 56 in calf heifers sold to average £1784 and topped at £1850 on several occasions for HoJo heifers consigned by the Stewart family from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso.
Bulling heifers were less on the month topping at £980 to average £787.
The sale concluded with 32 heifer calves consigned by Cumrue Farming Partners near Dumfries comprised of Irish Friesian and Jersey cross calves topping at £280 to average £202.
