PRIME CATTLE: A larger show of 66 prime steers and heifers forward selling exceptionally well, 20 cattle sold at or over £2000 per head, while 6 sold at £2200 or above to a day’s overall top of £2439.45 for 834kgs British Blue steer from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Kirkby Stephen. Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle sold another to £2385.57 for 749kgs and £2333.61 for 774 kgs. Messrs Nicholson also sold top Limousin cross to £2206.80 for 720kgs. Messrs Bell, Hoddomtown, Lockerbie to £2203.41 for 726kgs and Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton to £2192.50 for 737kg. Blonde crosses to £2072.82 for 716kgs from Messrs Carruthers, Grassgarth, Carlisle and Charolais to £2015.64 from Messrs Byers, Ellen Bank, Wigton. Top pence per kilo of 318.5p was paid to Messrs Nicholson, for their aforementioned 749kg British Blue Cross.
Heifers sold to £2050.43 for a 701kg Limousin from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside, Wishaw and to £1978.10 for 604kgs from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby. Top overall pence per kilo of 327.5 went to Messrs Gass, Nunscluugh, Carlisle for their 604kgs. Messrs Miller, High Aketon, Wigton sold their best to 314.5p for a 514kg Limousin cross to Steven Wilson

Topping the sale at £2295.69 was a 749kg Limousin from Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, Lanark, with Messrs Nimmo, Bogside Farm, Wishaw selling 715kgs to £2170.03. More locally Messrs Cowx, Hudscales, Wigton sold 733kg to £2158.69 and Messrs Nixon, Huntershall, Wigton to £2116.98 for 684kgs. Charolais to £2286.66 for 827kgs from Messrs Goldie, Greenfield, Annan. Aberdeen Angus crosses to £2080.92 for 709kgs from Messrs Carse, South Ord, Berwick Upon Tweed and Simmental crosses to £1939.52 for 704kg from Messrs Brown, Abune the Brae, Dumfries. Messrs Nimmo, Bogside Farm sold a Limousin x cow for 860kg at 263.5p totaling £2266 bought by Frank Smart. SHEEP: Another great show of sheep for June in all sections as the prime and cast sheep ring in Borderway really builds momentum with new buyers and vendors once again finding their way to Rosehill this week. A large show of ewes kicked off proceedings with all classes less on the week these topped at £215 for Texels from TJ Magee, Strathbane, selling to Lancashire Direct Halal Ltd. Lean ewes are far more in demand than overly fat ewes. Prime lambs sold beyond all expectations with an overall average of 331ppk being 30 – 40p beyond other outlets selling today. Peter Urwin, Hill House led the way with Beltex lambs at £204 & £202 selling to Borland Foods Ltd Peter also lead per kilo at 454.8p to a pen of 42kg lambs which sold at £191 to Vivers Scotlamb. A very mixed offering of hoggs where meat was a great trade to a top of £182 for Texels from RD Horn, Field House, Penrith.
