Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale - Hoggs

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night when 1105 prime hoggs were forward.

Topping the hoggs at £177 were a pen of three Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby with this home also selling Texel cross hoggs at 67kg to make £171 and a pen of six 60kg hoggs making £170 also from this home.

Beltex cross hoggs sold to £171 and twice for three pens of three hogg from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield.

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £160 for a pen of ten 57kg hoggs from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm.

Mule hoggs sold to £144.50 and 294.9p/kg for a pen of twenty 49kg hoggs from Messrs Dawson, York, with this home also selling a pair of twenty nine 49kg Texel cross hoggs to make £155.50 (317.3p/kg), a pen of seventeen 50kg Texel cross hoggs sold to £157.50 (315p/kg) with a pen of twenty 54kg Texel cross hoggs making £161 (298.1p/kg) a pen of seventeen 51kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £152.50 (299p/kg) a pen of thirteen 48kg hill cheviot hoggs making £147 (306.3p/kg) a pen of six 49kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £133 (271.4p/kg) and a pen of eight 49kg Swaledale hoggs selling for £125.50 (256.1p/kg) all from Messrs Dawson, York.

All classes and breeds of good meated and fed hoggs of all weights but particularly hoggs 45kg plus were in extreme demand and were the dearest recently seen, with plenty of these types wanted next week here at Kirkby Stephen as the last chance for the up coming qurbani festival.
