Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale -Spring Lambs & Cast sheep

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,431 sheep were forward consisting of 1,116 spring lambs, 1,105 prime hoggs and 1,210 cast sheep.

Topping the spring lambs at £187 was a 49kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall, Carlisle.

This same home also topped at 421.1p/kg for a pen of 38kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £160.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a pair of 49kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £175, with 51kg Texel cross lambs from this home also making £175 with both lots selling to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Messrs Pickard, Leicester sold a pen of seven 52kg Texel cross lambs to make £170, with another pen of 52kg Texels from this home selling for £166.

C&G Davies, Leicester sold a pen of five 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £161 (412.8p/kg) with another pen of five 39kg lambs from this home selling for £160 (410.3p/kg)

A pen of five 41kg Beltex cross lambs sold to make £165 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm.

Suffolk cross lambs sold to £165 from Messrs Ewin, Black Syke, Sandford.

Trade for all classes of spring lambs was sharper than it had been so far on the week with an overall sale average of 325.46p/kg being achieved.

Cast sheep topped at £240 for Texel cross ewes from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan with this home also solling Beltex cross ewes to make £230.

Next selling for £232 was a pen of seven Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield.

The consignment of 56 Beltex and Texel cross ewes from this home sold to average £181.01.

Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby sold a pair od Beltex cross ewes to make £228.

Messrs Addison, West Stoney Keld, Barnard Castle sold Texel ewes to £223.

Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith sold a pen of five Texel ewes to make £222.

Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport sold a pen of four Beltex cross ewes to make £220, with this same home also topping cast rams at £200 with a Texel ram.

Swaledale ewes topped at £102 from Messrs Pratt, Intake Bottom, Kirkby Stephen.
