STORE CATTLE – A mainly quality show of 450 store cattle forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby nearly all cattle met another flyer of a trade. The only cattle seen to ease would be some of the average bred yearling cattle due to lack of grass in the area. Topping the sale overall was a superb Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm, Carlisle peaking at £2060. Messrs Paterson, Low Three Mark, Stranraer sold another Limousin cross to £1940 and British Blues to £1700 from the same home. Messrs Brough, Clappers, Wigton sold top Charolais to £1500.
Steers peaked at £1860 for a Saler cross from Messrs Roper, Knowehill, Wigton with others from the same home selling to £1850 and £1810. Next at £1710 was a Limousin cross from Messrs Hope, Mouldyhills, Canonbie run of 45 with Messrs Hall, West End, selling next best at £1700. Charolais crosses from Messrs Kidd, Briggle, Penrith to £1700.
Dairy bred steers topped at £1770 for a Fleckvieh from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns, Annan and two Holsteins to £1700 from Messrs Watson, Howrigg Farm, Wigton and others to £1320 for a pen of three from Messrs Fisher, Low Milton, Newton Stewart.
