Errolston Tops at 6,500gns with Destina 

The June 2023 edition of the Border & Lakeland Club sale resulted in one of the best catalogues ever produced and these exceptional pedigrees were matched on the day by an incredible group of high quality cows and heifers.  Buyers had a mouth-watering choice of high yielding dairy cattle, with excellent type and bred from pedigrees with impressive longevity.  Trade topped at 6,500gns with the milking animals averaging £2491 per life, all the home nations were represented on the buyers list that included 14 counties from across the UK.

Finance For Farms sponsored the show with Stu Forshaw owner of the Longshaw pedigree Holstein herd near Preston judging the pre-sale classes.  He selected Errolston Massey Destina as his overall champion who was consigned by Craig and Brian Davidson owners of the Errolston herd near Gretna.  Destina was part of a special consignment of 33 cows and heifers from the eight time Scottish Champion Premier Herd, who were runners up in the National Premier Herd Competition last year to Aireburn Holsteins.  Destina will complete 12 generations of Excellent or Very Good cows, her pedigree was packed with Holstein legends that included, ALH Destiny, Markwell Durham Daisy, Markwell Luke Rapture and Markwell Blackstar Raven!  Errolston Massey Destina topped the trade selling for 6,500gns going to the Cairnpat Holstein herd near Stranraer.  

The Errolston herd boast no less then 100 Excellent and 150 Very Goods and a plethora of individuals that have produced over 100 ton of milk in their lifetime.  Taking the Reserve Champion rosette was Errolston Tank C Fran who sold for 3,300gns to the judge.  Fran was bred from the Fran cow family that traced back to a sister of Quality BC Frantisco who was a two time Royal Winter Fair Champion in Canada. 

Great cow families formed the foundation to each of the special animals that the Errolston herd sold including Errolston Monson Klaske who sold for 3,400gns to the Caldwell family in Ayrshire.  Klaske traced back to the famous dutch cow Koepn Storm Klaske that won several shows.  The Errolston Summertime sale consignment averaged almost £3000.

Heifers topped at 5,000gns for Gemini Shield Milly Red who was consigned by John Greenop owner of the Bridgedale herd.  She was sired by Koepon Shield Red and was bred by Ava Malt from Norfolk.  Her 3 week old Jacobs Showtime heifer calve sold for 1,250gns.  These two animals were bought by Mr Talbolt from Preston and Mr Martin from Dalston respectively. 

The Denmire herd owned by the Dennison family from near Ulverston sold ten super uddered cows and heifers to average £2700 and topped at 3,900gns for Denmire Homeground Erma.  This amazing young heifer had a world class udder and displayed a ton of potential to develop into a great cow in the future.  She was bought by Mr Millar from N. Ireland.
