Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale - Hoggs

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night when 1558 prime hoggs were forward.

Topping this section a £161 was a pair of 61kg Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Balmer, Forest Farm, Brough.

Texel cross hoggs also sold to £146 from Messrs Dawson, York.

Sarah Wilson, Bedale also sold Texel cross hoggs to make £142.

Blue Texel hoggs sold to £144 from Hyde Park, Penrith.

Beltex cross hoggs sold to £133 (302.3p/kg) for a pen of 44kg from Messrs Dawson, York. With another pen five 42kg Beltex hoggs selling to £123 (292.9p/kg) also from this home.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £132 from Messrs Hornsby, Howe Nook, Orton.

A pen of 20 39kg hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £102.50 (262.8p/kg from Messrs Dawson, York.

Mule hoggs sold to £129 from Messrs Sibson, Hole House, Bassenthwaite.

Swaledale hoggs sold to £124 for a pen from Messrs Walton, Ellergill Barn, Barnard Castle. With another pen of 36 44kg Swaledales making £112 (254.5p/kg) from Messrs Dawson, York.

Blackfaced hoggs topped at £113 for a pen of 40 44kg hoggs from Messrs Dawson, York. With another pen of 32 39kg £103.50 (265.4p/kg) and another pen of 31 40kg hoggs making £105.50 (263.8p/kg).

Texel hoggs topped at 302.6p/kg for a pen of 38kg hoggs which sold for £115 from Hyde Park.

Two pens of 10 41kg Texel hoggs sold to make £118.50 (289.p/kg) and £117.50 (286.6p/kg) both from Messrs Dawson York.

Once again all pens of good meated hoggs of any breed still sold well to a competitive ring side of buyers. Large numbers for the time of year were forward with three times as many forward as the same week last year. 1076 hoggs being shown from one consignor once again showing the confidence in the live ring here at Kirkby Stephen.
