PRIME CATTLE: A smaller entry of 49 Prime steers and heifers forward selling by far way sharper on the week with five cattle selling over £2200 to a days overall top of £2386.25 for a 771 kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith and the same home sold a 768kg crossbred to £2346.24 both purchased by Eric Hall. Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle sold a further three to £2305.10 for 740kgs to A & D Meats, £2302.68 for 744kgs to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle and £2244.66 for 716kgs to Steven Wilson, Butchers Shop, Corby Hill, Carlisle. Charolais crosses from Messrs Sisson, Fenton Farm, Brampton to £2075.75 for 722kgs. Top pence per kilo steer at 313.5 was the aforementioned 716kgs from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake. Heifers saw a days top of £2294.63 for a 725kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle and another to £2231.00 for 673kgs both purchased by Steven Wilson, Corby Hill and Brampton Butchers Shops. Messrs Maw, Wintershields, Carlisle sold a 607kg Limousin cross heifers to £1945.44 purchased by John Penny, Leeds. A 714kg Charolais cross from Messrs Tattersall, Enzieholm, Langholm to £1881.39 and purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Top overall pence per kilo was 331.5p from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse for 673kg purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers.

PRIME BULLS: A decent entry of 72 Prime bulls forward selling slightly easier on the week on the whole. Topping the sale overall was a 948kg Charolais at £2592.78 from Messrs Wight, Carwood, Biggar. Messrs Johnson, West Wharmsley, Hexham sold 920kgs to £2387.40. Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith sold an 831kg Limousin to £2405.75 and Messrs Scott, Dalton Hook, Lockerbie sold 916kgs to £2395.34. A continental cross from Messrs Quine, Ballakilley Farm, Isle of Man achieved £2281.23 for 714kg. A Saler cross from Carwood Farm, Biggar sold to £2052.78.
Top overall pence per kilo of 319.5 went to the 714kg Continental cross from Messrs Quine, Isle of Man purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis. Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle sold their best Limousin cross to 309.5p for 638kg
Black and white bulls peaked at £1553.06 for 809kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Morley, Hadderdale, Appleby and to £1509.71 for 633kgs from Messrs Wilson, South View, Penrith, this same animal was also top pence per kilo at 238.00 purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.

CAST COWS: Once again Borderway leads the way with 303 cast cows forward. Messrs Stephenson, Bordley Green Farm sold a pure British Blue cow 842kg at 325.5p totalling £2740 to David Holmes. Messrs Maudsley, Littlebank sold two British Blue cows for 886kg at 307.5p totalling £2724 and 747kg at 311.5p totalling £2326 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick and Owain Llyr. Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor’s run of Limousin cows topped at 926kg at 219.5p totalling £2032 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Goldies, South Bowerhouses sold Charolais cows for 890kg at 217.5p totalling £1935 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Bays Leap Dairy Farm sold the top priced Beef Shorthorn cow for 895kg at 197.5p totalling £1767 to Jewitt Meats. Messrs Dempster, Castlehill sold a Limousin cow for 602kg at 253.5p totalling £1526 to Alan Jarvis.
A large entry of dairy cast cows was forward however trade for all classes would be slightly back on the week. Messrs Little & Son, Kirkbride House sold the top priced Norwegian Red cow for 819kg at 193.5p totalling £1584 to Les Fell. Messrs Horsley, Woodhouse sold the top priced Holstein heifer for 718kg at 211.5p totalling £1518 to Alan Jarvis. Messrs Hutchinson, The Hill sold the top priced Holstein x cow for 757kg at 199.5p totalling £1510 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Mr Andrew Graham, Kirkhouse sold the top priced Fleckvieh cow for 825kg at 179.5p totalling £1480 to Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Paisley, Micklethwaite Farm sold a Friesian heifer for 481kg at 221.5p totalling £1065 to Jewitt Meats. Messrs Paterson & Son, Low Three Mark Farm sold a Holstein x heifer for 620kg at 215.5p totalling £1336 to Alan Jarvis.
