CHARMING HEIFER TOPS AT £2500
The Borderway Sale Centre was once again packed to capacity for the July Dairy sale that feature 250 dairy cattle with most of the dairy breeds represented. The diversity in the breeds was also evident in the quality with a range of cattle available for all preferences and budgets. Trade was down on the month with milkers topping at £2500 to average £1892, this is the lowest average price since early 2020.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Covington herd of the Bailey family from Biggar. Covington Charming Natasha sold for the top price of the day at £2500, she was sired by K&L Charming and was bred from a super dam that twice produced over 11000kgs. This super group of heifer averaged £2105 that also included Covington Flowrider Tail who sold for £2300.
Cows topped at £2480 for a tremendous cow from the Coppside herd of the Jackson’s from Guillyhill Farm. Coppside Secretariat Pansy was fresh in her second and was giving 50kgs, her dam was an Excellent 93 pointed cow.
The Wilsons from Wreaywood sold a tremendous group of cows to average over £2000 and topped at £2320 for Wreaywood Honeybee Goldie.
The trade for British Friesian was strong the Williamson family from Barrowmoor Farm in Appleby topping the trade at £2100 on two occasions.
Jersey heifers in milk and Jersey cross bred heifers were value for money with top price heifer selling for £1750. She was and cross bred Jersey heifer consigned by Cowhill Trust from Kerricks Farm, she was producing 31kgs and bred from one of the highest producing cows in the herd.
Sanders Farms from the Isle of Man sold 30 dry cows that were mostly Swedish Red cows bred of Holstein and Holstein cross dams. They topped at £1500 on three occasions.
Holstein in calf heifers topped at £1680 for a powerful framed heifer consigned by Kyle Smith from Perth.
Maiden heifers and heifer calves topped at £900 twice to average £625.
