Kirkby Stephen Prime sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 2655 sheep were forward consisting of 1359 prime lambs and 1296 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £172 were a pair of 46kg Dutch Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside selling to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Topping at 402.6p/kg were a pen of eight 38kg Beltex cross lambs which made £153 from Messrs Foster, Fordham Farm, York.

This home also sol a pen of three 43kg Beltex cross lambs to make £169 (393p/kg)

A pen of five 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £162, 47kg to make £161, a pen of eight 37kg to make £147 (397.3p/kg) a pen of four 38kg lambs to make £150 (394.7p/kg) and a pen of eleven 37kg lambs to make £140 (378.4p/kg)

Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington sold a pen of six 59kg Texel lambs to make £159.

Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm, Keswick sold a pen of three 57kg Texel cross lambs to make £158, 55kg to make £157, a pen of seven 54kg at £156.50 and a pen of three 56kg for £156.

The consignment of 36 lambs from Messrs Trafford sold to average 53.4kg £153.85 (288.1p/kg)

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pair of 51kg Beltex cross lambs to make £156.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold a pen of thirteen 42kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £151 (359.5p/kg).

An overall sale average of 282.34p/kg was achieved which once again was 20-30p/kg dearer than most other centres so far this week.

35 pens and 174 lambs sold between 320-402p/kg

Cast sheep sold to top at £227 for a pen of nine Texel ewes from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington.

Messrs Gill, Bowes Cross Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pen of Texel cross ewes to make £216.

Beltex cross ewes sold to £195 from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby.

Messrs Simpson, High Scale, Wigglesworth sold a pen of eight Beltex cross ewes to make £184.

Mule ewes sold to £130 from Messrs Marston, South View, Winton.

Suffolk cross ewes sold to £160 from Riverside Farming.

Cast rams sold to £214 for a Texel also from this home.

All classes of cast sheep were once again a strong trade without ringside of twelve active buyers looking for plenty of prime lambs and cast sheep on a weekly basis here at Kirkby Stephen!
