Kirkby Stephen Prime sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,745 sheep were forward consisting of 1,801 prime lambs, 204 prime hoggs, 1,150 cast sheep and 500 store lambs. 

Topping the sale at £200 and 540.5p per kilo was a 37 kilo Beltex cross lamb which was sold in aid of the type one diabetes charity generously put up by Messrs Beresford, Angerton Hall Farm, Kirkby in Furness with the successful purchaser being Lancashire Direct Halal. 

Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm, Keswick sold a pen of four 42 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £198 (471.4p per kilo) with two pens of five 55 kilo Texel cross lambs making £172 and £170 from this home, this consignment of eighteen lambs sold to average 48.5 kilos, £173.56. 

Messrs Maugahan, Ash Garth, Great Asby sold 49 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £189 (385.7p per kilo).

Messrs Fairburn, Marrriforth, Ripon sold a pair of 51 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £185. 

Charlotte and Georgia Davies, Top Field Farm, Gaddesby sold a pen of five 39 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £167 (428.2p per kilo) with another pen of ten 39 kilo Beltex cross lambs making £150 (384.6p per kilo) and a pen of 45 kilo lambs selling for £170 the consignment of 56 lambs from this home sold to average 39.5kilos, £147.88 (373.6p per kilo). 

Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm sold a pen of 41 kilo Beltex cross lambs to make £175 (426.8p per kilo) and a pen of 45 kilo lambs selling for £170,

Mule lambs sold to £130 and 260p per kilo for a pen of thirteen 50 kilo lambs from Messrs Burrow and Rutter Armstrong, Langwathby Hall, Penrith who also sold a further pen of fifteen 48 kilo Mule Lambs to make £123 (256.3p per kilo).

Once again Kirkby led the way in the prime lamb trade with an SQQ average of 283.14p per kilo and an overall average of 282.57p per kilo being achieved. 

 27 pens and77 lambs sold between £150-£200

59 pens and 226 lamb sold between £140 and £200

17 pens and 110 lambs sold between 350-540p per kilo

37 pens and 243 Lambs sold between 330-540p per kilo.

Cast sheep were forward in larger numbers with may fresh faces taking advantage of our 12 active buyers competing freely for all classes. 

Topping the sale at £316 which is a market record was a pair of Pure Texel ewes from Messrs Teward, New House Farm, Darlington. 

Cast Texel rams sold to £225 from Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle. 

Beltex cross ewes sold to £185 for a pen of four from Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton.

Suffolk cross ewes sold to £180 for a pair from Riverside Farming.

Swaledale ewes sold to  £106 for a pen of nine from Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, South Stainmore. 

All classes and breeds of cast sheep were strongly bid for by our full ring of buyers and many more cast sheep could be sold to great advantage here at Kirkby Stephen on a weekly basis!.
