Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,660 sheep were forward consisting of 1,905 prime lambs, 1,150 cast sheep and 605 store lambs.

Topping the sale at £225  was a 51kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm which was bought by Bowland Foods.

Topping at 448.9p were 45kg Dutch Texel lambs which made £202 also from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm which was bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

This same home sold 49kg Dutch Texel cross lambs to make £200 also selling to Dowdings Butchers. With another pen of six 43kg lambs making £172 (400p/kg).

The consignment of fifteen lambs from Terrys Farm sold to average 46kg £170.33 (363.44p/kg)

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of three 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £178 (434.1p/kg). this home also sold a pen of five 44kg Beltex cross lambs to make £160.

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan sold a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £170 (404.8p/kg)

Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie sold 48kg Beltex cross lambs to make £174.

Messrs Longstaff, Ascot House, Murton sold a pen of seven 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £162 (395.1p/kg)

With 53kg Suffolk cross lambs making £169 from Messrs Atkinson, Lady Anne Drive, Brough.

Heavy lambs sold to a flying trade for classes with 47kg Texel cross lambs selling to £179 from Messrs Somerville, Lansmere, Penrith.

A pen of six 49kg Texel cross lambs sold to make £177 from Messrs Burrow & Rutter Armstrong, Penrith.

Messrs Ewin, Black Syke, Sandford sold a pen of 53kg Texel cross lambs to make £168 with another pen of 50kg lambs from this home making £164.

Charollais cross lambs weighing 54kg sold for £168 from Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie.

Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby sold a pen of seven 47kg Texel cross lambs to make £167.

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth sold a pen of 49kg lambs to make £166.

Trade for all classes breeds and weights was fantastic once again here at Kirkby Stephen with three fresh buyers in attendance completing the 15 active buyers ringside and making Kirkby Stephen to be one of the, if not the most competitive live platforms to market your prime sheep in the country!

As a result of this an overall sale average of 282.19p/kg was achieved which includes more pens of Mule and hill bred lambs coming throughout now.

37 pens and 99 lambs sold between £150-£225

21 pens and 69 lambs sold between 340-448p/kg.

Mule lambs sold to £115 and 255.6p/kg for a pen of 45kg lambs from Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle.

Light weight lambs were also a flying trade with a pen of 367kg Swaledale lambs making £79.50 (214.9p/kg) from Messrs Thompson, East Unthank Farm, Haltwhistle. With another pen of twenty 34kg Swaledale lambs from this home making £72.50 (213.2p/kg)

Cast sheep topped at £180 for two pens of Texel ewes from Messrs Millar, Crookholm, Canonbie.

Beltex cross ewes sold to £164 for a pen from Messrs Knipe, Todds Farm, Kendal.

Mule ewes topped at £124 for a pen from Messrs Jackson, Skelton Wood End, Penrith.

Swaledale ewes sold to £82 for a pen of sixteen ewes from Kilnstown Farms, Carlisle.

Rough Fell cast tups sold to £134 for a pair from Messrs Steadman, Ellergill Farm, Gaisgill.
