WHISKEY GETS THE CROWD GOING AT BORDERWAY

An incredible group of cows and heifers were on offer at the August edition of the Border & Lakeland Holstein sale. Buyers had a wonderful choice of high yielding cows giving up to 60kgs to select from with numerous animals being bred from deep proven cow families. Trade topped at 3,600gns with the milking animals averaging £2344 per life with only eight animals selling for less than two thousand.

Finance For Farms sponsored the show with John Montgomery owner of the Drumglass herd near Glasgow judging the pre-sale classes. He selected Errolston Attico Win D Ricki as his overall champion who was consigned by Craig and Brian Davidson from near Gretna. Ricki was sired by Gen-I-Beq Attico Red and will complete eleven generations of Excellent or Very Good classified cows. Her granddam was Errolston Damion Ricki EX96 who was Grand Champion at Northern Dairy Expo in 2010 and the third dam, Formation Ricki was the Royal Highland Show Champion in 2004. This powerful framed heifer sold for 2,800gns to the Carlile family from near Brampton.

Taking the Reserve Champion rosette was a super uddered Jersey cow consigned by Tony Shaw; Newstyle Matt Lassie was sired by Wilsonview Matt and was producing close to 30kgs, her dam was sired by Tequila and was a renowned milk producer. This impressive young cow sold for 1,550gns to the judge.

Berryholme Sidekick Whiskey topped the trade selling for 3,600gns to the Hastwell family from Kirkby Stephen. Whiskey has classified VG85 3yr in her second lactation and displayed enormous potential to classify Excellent in this lactation. Her dam, Berryholme Mogul Whiskey EX94 was the crowd favourite at the Berryholme Open day back in 2021. Another 3 heifers from this home sold to average £3045.

Another super attractive heifer that was not exhibited in the pre-sale show was Ashberry Delta Lambda Margarita who was consigned by Mr Mounsey from Irthington. Margarita had a close to perfect udder and a super strong frame and sold for 2,900gns to John Montgomery from near Glasgow.

The Espland Holstein herd sold another impressive group of heifers and topped at 2,650gns for Espland Fita Maisie who was bought by Mr Talbot from near Preston.

The Denmire sold two heifers to average just under £2600 with Demire Athabaska Judy selling for 2,600gns to the judge. She had place second in the Senior Heifer In Milk class in the early morning show and was sired by Westcoast Athabaska.
