Breeding Sheep 'Euro' Sale

On Friday, 1^st September Harrison & Hetherington conducted its Annual Sale of Euro Continental ewes and shearlings in Borderway market.  A total of 2,200 head went under the hammer with the quality of sheep being unrivalled anywhere in the Country.  A total of 500 ewes were sold to level out at £167.75 whilst 1700 Shearlings went on to average at £191.62.  Topping the sale was a single Pedigree shearling from Highfield Farming, Duns selling for £800 to Mr Coulthard, Gill House, Barnard Castle.  Ewes topped at £420 for a single Pure Texel 2 Shear from Messrs Sugden, Kirkbog, Dumfries.  Commercial shearling met a blistering trade with first cross shearling out of mules being the demand on the day.  Topping the sale of Commercials was a pen of 21 first cross shearlings from PT & SM Hewitson who made £270 per life.  The same home also sold pens to £260 on multiple occasions.  Any leaner sheep did provide some resistance, however all vendors left more than satisfied with the days trade.
