Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night, when 2,663 sheep were forward consisting of 1,784 prime lambs and 879 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £180 was a 50kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, which was bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Topping at 411.8p/kg was a pen of ten 38kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £156.50 from Messrs Skelton, Low Huse, Maryport.

This same home also sold a pen of four 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £164 (410p/kg), a pen of five 41kg at £159.50 (389p/kg) a pen of fourteen 40kg lambs at £153.50 (383.8p/kg) a pen of fifteen 41kg at £152 (370.7p/kg) a pen of twelve 39kg lambs making £147 (376.9p/kg) and 56kg lambs selling for £176 all from Low House.

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold a pair of 43kg Rouge cross lambs to make £166 (386p/kg)

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold a pen of eight 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £163 (388.1p/kg).

Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby sold a pen of four 41kg lambs to make £150 (365.9p/kg) with another pen of four 40kg lambs making £147.50 (368.8p/kg)

Suffolk cross lambs sold to £160 from Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith.

Texel cross lambs sold to £158 from Messrs Robinson, Hall Farm, Orton.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold 51kg Texel cross lambs to make £152.

A pen of six 47kg Texel cross lambs sold for £150 from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle.

Mule lambs sold to £121.50 for a pen of 50kg from Messrs Morland, Starrah, Kaber.

A pen of fifteen 48kg Mules sold to make £116 from Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Morland.

An SQQ sale average of 270.23p/kg and an overall average of268.25p/kg £166.60 was achieved.

Once again good meated and well bred or meaty heavy lambs were in demand and sold to wonderful returns with all buyers looking for these types on a weekly basis here at Kirkby Stephen.

38 pens and 202 lambs sold between £140 - £180

27 pens and 176 lambs sold between 320p/kg – 411p/kg.

Cast sheep topped at £187 for a pen of five Texel cross ewes from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

Swaledale ewes sold to £84 for a pen from S Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras.
